arrival was a bit confusing at first, but once settled it became home.the staff was kind and helpful, plus very knowledgeable.the room was perfect with a king sized bathroom.location was perfect close to all, lively neighborhood with students and if using a car, they have reserved parking at 10e per night.the hotel is modern and clean.my only recommendation would be larger soaps in the bathroom and a deeper sink.(the water splashes too much and you get wet).

An unusual hotel centrally situated. Although called a palace most rooms are fairly standard and ours was great for a 3 night stay. Quiet with views of the central courtyard and good modern toilet/shower room. Entrance is unusual at side of the square-you buzz yourself in and then take small lift (2 person) only to reception on 4th floor. Breakfast on the sunny terrace was a bonus in November and was more than adequate with plenty tea, coffee, juice, pastries, bread etc. If you have a hire car (which we did) you must book your parking in advance. There are only 4 spaces!!!. Parking in central Catania is all on street and difficult to find and Europcar get you to sign that you will not park overnight on the street. Other car rental companies might be the same. Reception staff very helpful in recommending restaurants, directions etc.

We recently stayed at the Manganelli for one night and found this hotel quite comfortable and in a great location, a block east of Via Etna. A lift takes you to the 4th floor hotel of an old building. We had a very large double room, well lighted by 2 windows, king size bed, ample closet space. The bath was average sized and overall the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was served beginning at 0700 and was average, juice, meats, croissants, cappuccinos. I gave this hotel 4 stars because of its great location. Short 5-10 minute walk down Via Etna to the Duomo. All the nice shops of Catania are along Via Etna. We took the local bus (1 euro) from the airport to the city center and 20 mins later got off at Stesicoro fermata and from there it was a 10 min walk to the hotel. I recommend this hotel and would consider staying there again.

Staying at the Manganelli Palace hotel, in the heart of Catania, was something of an odd experience – not unpleasant at all, just… well, odd. The place is set in what appears to be an apartment block; you take a lift (elevator) to Reception on the fourth floor, then you take another lift, an extraordinarily slow one, down a couple of floors. After a couple of days, this became rather tedious.

Having said that, the staff were friendly and more than helpful and the room pleasant enough, overlooking as it did a walled garden with mature trees. The breakfast was good – not least because we could take it every morning on a spacious balcony.

So, not a bad hotel, once you’re used to the ‘up and down’ two-elevator travel arrangements!

The hotel is certainly well located but it was not good value for the money I paid. The room I stayed in was certainly not "boutique" nor did I see frescoes anywhere. My room was the standard of a very cheap one star hotel. The breakfast was also very ordinary. There must be better value for money in a city like Catania.

Room Tip: Other reviewers claim they had big rooms with frescoes. I would ask for this.

Its quite easy to be put off by the surroundings as you arrive but its totally wrong to blame the hotel for the condition of this part of the town. In this part of italy, people look after the inside of their properties but have little respect for the outsides and even less for other people's property. Ignore the grafitti in the streets and enjoy the interior of the hotel.

Its part of the 4th floor and is just part of what was once a palace. Its nicely decorated and very comfortable, with very helpful staff. Decent sized rooms (not too common in city hotels in italy), and a smart comfortable lounge. The view from the windows is not exactly exciting but then few people are going to want to stay long in Catania, A decent continental breakfast, not probably suitable for those who like large hotels with 10 yards of buffet for breakfast, but adequate for those who want a bit of Italian style.

As the capital of Sicily, Catania is more commercial and less touristy than other towns so an overnight stay is enough for most people, I would think. The Manganelli is close to what there is to view and fits the bill for an overnighter very well.

This is not 3* hotel! Even this is not a hotel. Dirty, old building at dirty street. Polite staff but it is not enough. I can not find words... I want to run away and crying. Palace?????? Never recommend to anybody!!!
