“Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

An Oasis of charm and tranquility close to Catania Airport with a fantastic pool and beautiful gardens.
Don't be alarmed by the commercial district and scrub land as you approach, inside the prperty gates everything is perfect.
We stayed one night to be close to the airport for a morning flight home and this was the perfect place, great room, helpful owner and great relaxationfor the kids before departing,

We needed a place to stay for our early morning flight out from Catania Airport. The B&B is located only a 5 minute drive from the airport in the middle of empty fields. Outside the hotel is basically a dump, but when you arrive at the gates you are transported into a palace. Giuseppe the owner met us and gave us a personal tour of the grounds. He was very friendly and courteous bringing us a bottle of cold water on a hot afternoon. We swam in the immaculate pool and slept in a clean, comfortable room. The breakfast was self-serve which was nice as we had to leave early for the airport. Giuseppe and his daughter helped us arrange a cab which was waiting for us at the gate.

A note about the location. There is nothing around the area to do or eat and it is rather ugly outside the gates. To go to the airport though it is the most convenient spot.

We stayed here for one night prior to our flight home to England. This is a very pleasant place to stay if you want to be close to the airport. The grounds and large swimming pool and pool area was first class and a complete contrast to what you saw outside of the electric gates. However, there are no restaurants or shops in the vicinity that you would want to go to and the area has a very run down feel to it. Because the hotel and grounds are so lovely it is crying out for a restaurant. The grounds alone, I am sure, would guarantee its success due to the lack of amenities nearly. Both Santuzza and her father were very helpful.

we stayed at the castello d'urso somma for a week with our baby and our toddler, and greatly enjoyed our stay! everything about the b&b surpassed our expectations. the large garden area with its 25m swimming pool is stunning - and very well kept. we were given the largest room (a large room which connects to a small one, both with their own bathrooms, no. 5), and it was perfect for our family, and spaceous, clean, quiet, beautiful. we felt at home at the b&b, and spent a lot of time by the pool which we had mostly to ourselves. we also liked making our own breakfast at whichever time we preferred, and anything used for breakfast was always immediately replaced by the friendly owners and staff. stylish setting. relaxing.

We stayed here for one night before an early morning flight to Rome. What a place! An amazing castle set amongst a huge manicured garden with a 25m swimming pool (complete with diving board), a tennis court and ample car parking. The rooms were spacious, clean, cool, and comfortable. Unfortunately our flight was at the crack of dawn, so we were unable to hang around for breakfast. We did, however, enjoy the pool, the extremely friendly staff, and meeting Santuzza, and her charming father. We are going to have to come back!

We stayed for one night before a morning flight back home from Catania. A most charming and unusual place. A romantic Castello with a gorgeous garden, two separate newly built small buildings with fine rooms, convenient breakfast, and a huge swimming pool. To top it all, an enchanting host. Highly recommended.

Found this by googling accommodation near Catania airport and then looking at Tripadvisor, and this b&b stood out hands down. So I was very pleased we could get a room here, sadly only needed one night.
Instructions to get here were very good, and in addition I looked at Google street car too so i would recognise the landmarks as we would be arriving in the dark, and it all worked fine. In common with much accommodation here, there are big locked gates, but just ringing the intercom and saying who we were got them opened and we entered the grounds of this marvellous castle with lovely grounds and a HUGE swimming pool! You would not know you were in the industrial outskirts of Catania at all.
We had a large family suite with a huge very comfy king size bed and ensuite with shower, and then off that was a nice twin with its own WC for our teenage sons. All very grand (but not too grandly) decorated and furnished. Even plug in mosquito repellants awaiting us!
Breakfast in a communal kitchen/diner with outside seating to the side of the beautifui courtyard and with a view of the pool. it is serve yourself so while the choice is not as good as at the next b&b we stayed at (Sotto il vulcano, Nicolosi) it is fine and very relaxed and of course there is a proper coffee machine!
The hosts are father and daughter - he lives in the castle itself and speaks little English but is extremely welcoming and freindly, and she (sorry can't remember names!) lives elsewhere and speaks very good English.
Would have no hesitation in staying here again or in recommending it...and it is not even that expensive!
What was also very nice was that the daughter impressed upon us that if we needed anything at all while on Sicily (not even staying with them) to use them as a base or for assistance. This was extremely kind and when you are travelling abroad and don't speak much at all of the language, with 2 kids (well teenagers) one of whom is disabled, that could have been extremely useful had we needed it.
