“A special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2012

We stayed for one night before a morning flight back home from Catania. A most charming and unusual place. A romantic Castello with a gorgeous garden, two separate newly built small buildings with fine rooms, convenient breakfast, and a huge swimming pool. To top it all, an enchanting host. Highly recommended.

Found this by googling accommodation near Catania airport and then looking at Tripadvisor, and this b&b stood out hands down. So I was very pleased we could get a room here, sadly only needed one night.
Instructions to get here were very good, and in addition I looked at Google street car too so i would recognise the landmarks as we would be arriving in the dark, and it all worked fine. In common with much accommodation here, there are big locked gates, but just ringing the intercom and saying who we were got them opened and we entered the grounds of this marvellous castle with lovely grounds and a HUGE swimming pool! You would not know you were in the industrial outskirts of Catania at all.
We had a large family suite with a huge very comfy king size bed and ensuite with shower, and then off that was a nice twin with its own WC for our teenage sons. All very grand (but not too grandly) decorated and furnished. Even plug in mosquito repellants awaiting us!
Breakfast in a communal kitchen/diner with outside seating to the side of the beautifui courtyard and with a view of the pool. it is serve yourself so while the choice is not as good as at the next b&b we stayed at (Sotto il vulcano, Nicolosi) it is fine and very relaxed and of course there is a proper coffee machine!
The hosts are father and daughter - he lives in the castle itself and speaks little English but is extremely welcoming and freindly, and she (sorry can't remember names!) lives elsewhere and speaks very good English.
Would have no hesitation in staying here again or in recommending it...and it is not even that expensive!
What was also very nice was that the daughter impressed upon us that if we needed anything at all while on Sicily (not even staying with them) to use them as a base or for assistance. This was extremely kind and when you are travelling abroad and don't speak much at all of the language, with 2 kids (well teenagers) one of whom is disabled, that could have been extremely useful had we needed it.

We arrived at Catania airport quite late at night and chose to stay at Castello D'Urso because it is close to the airport and also looked like a gorgeous place to unwind and spend the first two nights of our holiday. We were so pleased with our choice!

The owners were very welcoming, the property is stunning and the rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. There is also a good size pool in the grounds which no other guests used during our stay. We had the pool all to ourselves which was fantastic!

The only possible downside is that the property is a little way from the main drag but we had a car and thus this did not impact us at all. We actually thought it was lovely to be away from everything and when we did want to pop out to dinner or into Catania we were only a 5-10 minute drive away.

We would recommend Castello D'Urso to anyone and look forward to returning in the future.

We spent 11 nights in Sicily and split them between three B&Bs.
The Castello was definitely the stand out of the three!!
From the moment we arrived we were treated with a genuine hospitality and this did not fade at all during our stay. Our room was cozy, clean and comfortable. The common area well equipped with everything we needed. We traveled with our 18 month old and the staff were so accommodating and considerate to her needs and we were pleased the B&B is not inside the main building ( the Castle) but stands alone in a cute, renovated annex close by so that guests can enjoy their privacy. We had been a little hesitant with our booking initially because is a little out of the main drag but soon found out that the owners coop with a shuttle service to and from town for a little additional price ( Euros 20,00 per way/dayrate), they will work around your times and with not too much notice will happily pick you up at a location convenient for you.
I could not fault this B&B in any way - the tripadviser rating is certainly justified. We look forward to returning in the future.

My wife and I just left the amazing Castello D'Urso Somma B&B and it was one of the most memorable stays we have ever experienced!
Upon arrival we where greeted in the "open air reception" with a refreshing drink (fresh made orange juice!!!).
After a little tour of the property we where shown to our room: beautiful and sober decor, private bathroom, brand new LED tv. Rooms are inside a nice outbuilding, facing the Castle which is, instead, the owner's house.
The famiy "staff " are an asset to the B&B!They knew everyone by name and made you feel like you belonged rather than just being a guest. Stayed for 4 days.
This B&B is an amazing experience and one that we can not wait to repeat: such a peaceful, happy place.

We stayed for 1 nite before flying the next day. The lady manager was very friendly and welcoming, with very nice grounds, but given previous reviews were were abit disappointed in the place. Our room was in the annex, not the main house. The room smelt quite musky, the bed was only average comfort (a bit thin), it had an il-fitting bottom sheet and no top sheet, just a doonah. The shared common area was good, until 2 people arrived at approximately 10pm and decided to have some dinner, drinks and started smoking. We could hear everything they said, even though it was just a normal conversation.

So overall, we found our stay only to be average, but a good option if you want to avoid staying in Catania itself, and is very handy to thr airport.

We stayed here two nights this February. The rooms are lovely and clean. We appreciate B and B that have different quarters than the homeowners. The common kitchenette was appreciated with access to drinks and snacks 24/7. The owners are wonderful and fun to talk to. The gentleman owner is hilarious and despite his lack of English speaking made our waiting time fun. It was thoughtful to store our massive bicycle bags without charge and Santuzza helped us arrange transport to the airport. The grounds are immaculate and a nice oasis in the midst of Sigonella Base. The nearby area is food desert and no eating establishments are within walking distance.
