“Perfect Location, good hotel, restaurant could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

The UNA Hotel Palace is only 2 minutes from the Piazza del Duomo. We had a nice room, enough space, a very good bed. You have to shower in the bath, that's a minus. The shower is one of those "eco" ones, that give a very soft stream of water, which is nice for a spring rain, but not to wash your hair and body. The breakfast is okay, as long as everything gets replenished. The personnel is very friendly. Now, the restaurant. We had diner there out of convenience, but it's overpriced, for not very good food.
We spent our last few hours of sunshine on the terrace of the Etnea Roof Bar and that was a splendid way to end our short stay. Sun going under, terrific view on the smoking Etna, Prosecco and some tidbits of the "Happy Hour" buffet. Perfect. I would stay here again, but dine outside.

From the moment we arrived we were made so welcome by the receptionist. She very quickly sorted out a room because my husband was tired and wanted to lie down to rest.
The entrance is a wow! and so beautifully decorated with the feeling of space and contemporary look.
The bedroom was fine and very good value. We had lunch on the roof terrace in the sunshine, then went for a stroll in The Bellini gardens and shopping ( just outside the front door) on a Sunday afternoon! Max Mara is part of the front of the building. An evening drink on the pavement to watch the Passegiata and then dinner in our hotel restaurant upstairs. We were flying from Catania the next morning and it was all so simple, just 15-20 minutes away by taxi. I would certainly recommend Una Hotel Palace and we are keen to try some of the other ones in the group. Thank you Una for making our stay so relaxing!

Dear Madame,
thank you so much both for recommending on Tripadvisor our Italian design hotel and for mainly appreciating our “made in Italy” hospitality, a special combination of attentions, cares of details and modern Italian design, where technology and the link with the territory offer indeed to our guests, like you and your husband, a comfortable and welcome stay experience.

Moreover, we read with pleasure that you really enjoyed both our central location in the core of the historic city centre and our Etnea Roof restaurant, where you can enchant your senses with the Sicilian taste in a relaxing location with stunning view to the baroque roofs and the majestic Etna.

We are definitely really glad that we were successful in making you enjoy our Italian hospitality, based not only on efficiency but also on emotion, so that you are also keen to stay in the other hotels of our chain.

Looking forward to welcoming you soon in the UNA world,

Warmest regards,

Rita Monfrini

This is a charming hotel right on the main street. First, I was upgraded to a suite which was marvelous. The balcony had a view of Mount Etna and the entire Via Etnea which was full of activity with people shopping and stopping for gelato's and coffee. You can walk to see the Bellini Gardens and the Roman Forum. Stroll down to the fish market and also take a walk a few blocks away to the farmers market.
The staff were delightful, attractive and very helpful. The noise from the street was not very loud and added to the ambience of its location.
The carpet in the suite was an off white and it did show dirt which is to be expected. The white marble floors in the bathroom(s) was beautiful maintained along with the balance of it. If is Catania I will stay here again.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

My wife and I went here for a short break.

I booked an executive double room and it was worth every euro cent. Relatively fast internet connection included in the room rate, free minibar, separate sitting area, good bed, working airco, OK bathroom (why do hotel owners think they do me a favor by putting a rain shower head in the bath for which the water pressure is completely insufficient???).

The service in the hotel was friendly and good.Just forget to use the PC in the lobby, as it is a relic running Windows XP with an internet connection so slow, that printing a boarding pass was absolutely impossible. Email the boarding pass to the reception and ask them to print it for you; that works much better....

Then the rooftop restaurant. What can I say? A hotel is for sleeping, not for eating.... The location is nice (although the view on the Etna was marred by an antenna forrest, something which was artfully photoshopped away on the "professional" hotel pictures). The service was slow and the food was average or worse.
The restaurant folks were either away (god knows where, I really couldn't find them), or if they were present, they were walking around in small groups talking to each other, ignoring the guests. You had to wave your hands to draw their attention, hoping that they would see you even though their eyes were looking in your direction. Also the fact that we were forced to enjoy their differences of opinion through the shouting coming from the area behind the bar didn't much to make me feel welcome.

The menu was one big example of "Lost in Translation".... I ordered fillet of beef and got a veal steak instead; the pork hamburgers turned out to be pork tenderloin medallions, totally overcooked. I can go on, but it would be boring, I'm afraid....

All in all, I would go there again and I also recommend the hotel, which is very well located in the center of Catania, btw; just stay away from the roof (well go there and enjoy the view of the Etna, they can't spoil that.).

Room Tip: Take an executive room

Dear guest,

thanks for sharing your experience with Tripadvisor travellers community and for taking your time to point some details to us about our service which will allow us to monitor the quality of it. Taking into consideration your not really positive comment, we are really grateful that you helped us in understanding what you consider not to be a high standard service. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that our restaurant is one of the most renowned among Catania restaurants for food and service quality. For this reason we are sorry that in your case we haven’t fulfil your expectations even if we think that as soon as you realised you got a wrong course you could have given us the opportunity to amend and fix your order by informing us about our mistake. Moreover, as per our main course menu, we usually ask our guest about their cooking preferences, especially for meat courses, among which, we inform you, there is no hamburger course.

However, your opinion really matters to us and it represents an opportunity to improve in order to fulfil your expectations completely during your next stay as you mentioned in your comment. We hope, then, you will be our appreciated guest again soon in the next future when we will definitely make sure you will change your mind about our restaurant.

Kind regards

We stayed here for 5 nights from 21st October. We were upgraded to an executive room which was a pleasant surprise. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant as indeed was everyone else we met there. The room was large and very clean. The roof restaurant was attractive and one evening we took advantage of the aperitivo which was excellent. The location of the hotel is perfect and within easy walking distance of every where you'd be likely to want to go. The only real downside was that the air conditioning was a bit fierce. I'd stay there again.

we stayed one night in October 2013 and had a lovely time at this hotel.
Staff are cheerful and enthusiastic. Roof terrace food was very good.
I did not like the surprise of paying EU20 to park my car.
Lovely to walk down the shopping street in the evening.

Room Tip: 512 has walk in shower

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Spent the last leg of our honeymoon at the UNA Hotel Palace in Catania. Maybe it was cloudy, maybe we were tired, but most definitely we were spoiled by staying at the Hotel Imperiale in Taormina prior to arriving here as I write this review.

Hotel itself is in a nice location overall, along the street with plenty of shops. But Catania is not the same as Taormina or Palermo as we didn't feel all that safe walking around specially at night. I think an elderly woman cussed us out in Sicilian near the University as we didn't pay any attention to her peddling. Streets are small and a bit tight to drive around in a car, but I found this kind of charming in a way. Unfortunately, we didn't spend much time in the city looking at the old buildings as the few we saw were quite amazing! For the most part we needed to do some last minute shopping. The Centro Sicilia as well as other malls are fairly close by car....which is a big plus.

We were greeted by a friendly staff, and they were most helpful throughout our 3 nights stay. The room we got was a suite, a duplex on the 3rd floor and the moment we walked in we notice a smell...and felt the rug to be a bit damp. Guess they must have just washed it recently, and wasn't a big deal.

When we walked upstairs (note: big mistake to get a duplex at the end of your trip) to the bedroom, the rug didn't look all too clean, but everything else was quite nicely kept. Television for the bedroom was mounted on the wall over the stairs and thought to be a bit small but doable.

Room was well kept the 3 nights we were there, and the buffet breakfast was quite nice.

We would stay here again, but hopefully after all the renovation in the surrounding area is done.
