“Not perfect but pretty good - 3.5 overall.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013 via mobile

Stayed for one night in May. Was upgraded to a suite, decor was excellent. Only complaint would be the shower, which had no power at all, and the fact that it was at the front facing the main road so was pretty noisy. The terrace is lovely and again beautifully decorated. Staff were really helpful and friendly.

Dear Sir,
thank you for posting on Tripadvisor your review, whose piece of information is important for us to monitor the service that we provide to our guests.

We read with pleasure that you appreciated our friendly and helpful staff and you liked a lot the decor of our Italian design hotel and its top location, our panoramic terrace, Etnea Roof, on the 7th floor, with a cool ambiance a breathtaking view, ideal location for our guests lovely and unforgettable moments.

We apologize for the temporary powerless shower that was immediately resolved as soon as in the city centre the external water supplier repaired a connecting tube on the main street but probably you could not have enough time to realize it and the consequent perfect reactivated function.

We invite you to come here in the near future, why not this time for a perfect stay, as experienced by most of our guests and if you may need, please feel free to contact us at anytime so then it will be our great pleasure to address you to an internal room as per your preference, because UNA takes care of you.

Best regards,
Rita Monfrini

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

We ended our 8 days in Sicily with 2 nights at the UNA Hotel Palace. We booked their Volcanic Package which gave a number of extra benefits including a tour of Mt Etna. Other benefits included early check-in, late check-out, upgraded room, free wifi, cocktail and canapes free on one night as part of their 'Happy Hour' promo.
We arrived around lunchtime and were glad that we had the early check-in. We got shown straight to our room which looked out onto Via Etnea with a small balcony which if we leaned out we got a great view down to the Duomo and up towards Etna.
We were checked in by Rita, the Guest Relations Manager and she was very helpful throughout our stay - thanks Rita!
Room was a good size with a small minibar and decent bathroom.
We had breakfast at the buffet one morning and then paid for the roof-top brunch on the following day. Both were good and set us up for the day.
Our tour of Etna was a bit of a surprise as we expected to be travelling as part of a group but instead we were met by our guide at reception, shown into his car and then whisked off on our tour of the volcano, volcanic cave and a farm shop selling local honey, oils etc (no hard sell which was nice). We arrived quite early so missed most of the crowds.
The guide was great, spent time answering all our questions about Etna (and Sicily) and gave us lots of good tips. Effectively we got a private tour as part of our hotel package which was great value (although I think you could find you are on a tour for 4 people and be travelling with 2 others which might have been a bit cramped)
The hotel location is great for exploring Catania. The airport bus stops across the road from the hotel (buy tickets at the Tobacconist shop for 1 euro each and validate them on the bus)
On our first night we went up to the roof top bar and enjoyed a complimentary cocktail as part of the room package with free canapes. From around 730pm to 1030pm every evening when you buy a cocktail for 10 euros you can eat a wide variety of canapes and we happily enjoyed a few cocktails and didn't bother going out for dinner! (Good mojitos)

So all in all we had good value stay, central location, friendly service and good food and cocktails with a tour thrown in for good measure. If you are in Catania I would recommend the UNA and don't miss a trip to Etna.

Stayed in this hotel for one night after being in Taormina for the previous 6, checked out the reviews on tripadvisor and the all seemed fairly good and the hotel website looked good also so i decided to stay here for the last day of our holiday. First the good. The location of the hotel is very good as it is located on one of the busy shopping streets and is easy enough to find, on entering the hotel the reception area was spacious and quite impressive and looked really well, at the check in desk we found that the staff were very friendly and attentive, we had booked a junior suite and and its one of those time where you just open the door of the room and its just ...meh !, not great. room looked a little tired, it had two separate areas but still managed to feel a bit cramped for some reason and had no real view ( which we dont really mind). Free mini bar was poor enough, but i suppose you cant expect much when it's free. room advertised with free Wi-Fi, siginal was so bad i could not connect- i managed to get the log in screen up but thats about it. Tried it on 4 different devices ( macbook air, tablet & galaxy note phone and gs2) and all showed very poor signal which was so bad it dropped off altogether and was not even visible at times. none of my devices have a cat 5 socket so cable option was out. Breakfast the next morning was not great, food seemed poor and the kids wouldn't eat it, food was removed very quickly when breakfast time was up and it was a bit hap hazard. The idea of paying extra if you wanted to have breakfast on the top floor seemed to be a little mean, ie.. if you wanted to have breakfast in a room that had windows and a view you pay extra.... ( im sure the food is better there though). It was the first hotel ever that my 7yr old girl said ' i dont like this hotel can we go back to the other one'. none of us liked it and we are fairly easy going people- the type of people who never complain !, staff were very friendly and helpful though and gave good directions to the nearby sites and were helpful. cant understand why the hotel gets such high ratings all the time though, its just average at best.

Dear Sir,
thank for taking the time to post on Tripadvisor you opinion for your night stay in our central located hotel, after one week holiday's in Sicily.

We are sorry about the occurred “misoutstanding”, because your stay, especially a family stay is really important for us. So then as you notice in most of our reviews we are families friendly and we take care of all our guests cause we have at heart in providing the best service both for the big and the tiny.
We understand that probably after a week of vacation the pre-night of your return causes a kind of anxiety especially for children and we understand that in this case they need more attention.
We have already focused and highlighted your remarks to interested breakfast department whose prompt service probably induced to your described quick performance perception. However, we would like to confirm you that even at 10:30am this service ending time, when it is necessary, breakfast colleagues provide you, of course without no extra charge, an additional service for other 15 minutes, so you can go on with your breakfast at your leisure and after that they start removing, in order to arrange the location for the following lunch service.
We would like to underline the very good quality of our delicious continental buffet breakfast included in the room rate, made up of a wide range of products, that however their liking can depend of the personal taste. Besides, if you want to eat something typical and belonging to the traditional recipes, then we propose you an additional service, a Sicilian breakfast, with a menu à la carte of both sweet and savoury delights, in the breathtaking ambiance of our Etnea Roof top location and in that case with a little supplement of only 10,00e per pers. and free for children till eight years old.

Moreover, there is the possibility to upgrade your room, so to get a bigger room than the one that you booked paying only a little supplement and benefits such as minibar and Wifi are still included. Concerning Internet signal, we have already talked to the web department in order to find out the reason of the temporary Wifi connection weakness signal and we discover resolving it that was experienced to the whole central city area, because of overcharging network peak on a concentrated rush hour.

We invite to come here again in the near future and you will realize that we can even live up to your expectations and experience personally why other guests and travellers giving us such high ratings.
If you may need suggestions or have further requests, please feel free to contact us directly at anytime and all our team will be at your disposal.

Best regards,
Rita Monfrini

Una Hotel Palace is part of a very reputable chain of hotels that we have stayed in on multiple occasions in Italy. The hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Taormina, or staying for business travel. It is modern and clean. The rooms are huge, very comfortable and very well appointed - comfortable beds, a pillow menu, lounge chairs & tables, a desk, big wardrobe, and enormous bathroom with 2 showers! The food is fantastic - we had a traditional Sicilian brunch and drinks on the amazing roof terrace which looks out over the city skyline - very chic. The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good English. Catania is a bit of a grimy city, but you will definitely not be disappointed by Una Hotel Palace.

Dear Madame,

thank you very much for posting such a positive review on Tripdavisor about our Italian design hotel of your, indeed, favourite "Made in Italy" chain UNA Hotels & Resorts.

In all our hotels, guests can experience a unique and amazing stay where comfort and care of details are imperative, so that agreeing with you, you cannot be disappointed and why not you can also taste the Italian food, that is why we propose in all UNA restaurants delicious courses from regional and traditional recipes and in our Etnea Roof top terrace, a special Sicilian breakfast, with typical sweet and savoury delights, prepared at the moment by our chef de cuisine, so rich that it looks more like as brunch as you wrote.

So then we will very happy to welcome you soon again in the UNA world,

Yours faithfully,

This hotel is a good hotel in a great city. UNA is an italian hotel chain and chain-experience is what you get. However, the hotel is clean, central, safe and the staff is friendly. The breakfast buffet is good and their Restaurant is also nice with a good menu.
However in a city like Catania you should definitely eat lunch and dinner in a restaurant somewhere in the city (coming out of the hotel turn right, enter first street right again and then after 150m turn left where you will find many small but great restaurants).

Sleep quality is ok, most rooms fast a sad looking court with AirCon units. The roof top terrace has really a fantastic view. Bathroom is clean, however you need a Doctor title to operate the shower.

So, if you are not into BnB and are looking for a hotel with good service, UNA is your choice.

Catania is large, busy and with the crowds and traffic it can be overwhelming. This hotel is located on a "shopping" street with a lovely park on one end, cafeterias and cafes intermingled with both small shops and a large department store. It is within walking distance of some ruins, a few large churches and a huge outdoor market.
The front desk staff is well organized and helpful. The rooms are comfortable, clean and pleasant. Breakfast is good and available in a well lit, comfortable room.
The star attraction is the restaurant/bar. On the top floor with a terrace and glorious views of Mt. Etna, the service is friendly yet professional. The variety and quality of the food is excellent. For a small fee and the purchase of a drink a buffet of antipasti can take the edge off hunger before your 9 PM meal!
Wifi is free for the first hour. Then it starts getting pricey.
Good overall value for the money.

We checked out of the UNA Hotel Palace today after a truly enjoyable stay. We arrived there 2 days early on short notice because other plans had fallen through and we were warmly and professionally welcomed by Rita, the manager on duty. Despite the short notice she was able to give us a lovely quiet room with a view of Mt. Etna from the balcony. We had dinner in the hotel that night in the rooftop restaurant with views of Mt Etna and all our stress melted away. The food and the service were excellent. Staff members Giorgio and Elise were wonderful. We had a great conversation with Giorgio and his tips about what to taste at fish market proved to be excellent.
The location of the hotel was perfect for seeing the sights in the historic centre of Catania. The staff, particularly Valentina, gave us excellent recommendations to help us enjoy the city and surrounding areas, for example, good restaurants, tours of Mt. Etna and information on getting to Taormina. We would be very happy to stay at the UNA again and would like to thank all the staff members throughout the hotel for their friendly, helpful attitude and professional service.
