“Deserves its high ranking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013 via mobile

We chose the Liberty for a week-long stay based on the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. We weren't disappointed. Like many other reviewers, we found the ride from the airport passed through some less than appealing streets and we wondered what we were getting into. Any concerns disappeared when we arrived at the hotel and were welcomed into the beautifully decorated, air conditioned interior. Our ground floor room was clean, spacious and very comfortable and despite being at street level, we weren't troubled by noise.

Other reviewers have pointed out the hotel is a couple of hundred meters off the main tourist area but we found that to be no problem - it is a short walk from most of the sites in the city.

Two things about the hotel particularly stood out for us; the breakfast buffet which offered a wide range of pastries, cereals and fruit and the helpfulness of the reception staff. Francesco and Giuliana were both particularly helpful with any questions and were never short of good restaurant recommendations.

Finally it was nice to find a hotel with free, reliable WiFi.

In conclusion, I'd have no hesitation in recommending the Liberty Hotel to anyone wanting high quality accommodation near the city centre.

I would absolutely recommend the Liberty Hotel to anyone visiting the Catania area. It is very apparent that the staff at this hotel (especially Francesco who was wonderful and the best person in the customer service field that I have ever dealt with...the manager should triple his salary!) takes great pride in what they do. The rooms are beautiful and clean and truly capture the essence of staying in a traditional Italian villa. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is a small walk from the tourist area, though this was nice because the area was very quiet (plus you gotta burn off that pasta and gelato somehow!). The area does have graffiti too, but all of Catania does unfortunately. I did not feel unsafe, even when walking around late at night. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and I would rate this hotel as the best.

We were disappointed may be because of the high expectation after reading the other reviews. The hotels is in an unattractive street. We stayed in the ground floor in one of the cheapest rooms. The bed was good but I don't think heavy curtains, wall paper and dark carpets will be to everyone's taste. Breakfast room also had same decor. May be more expensive rooms have better decor. The shower over the bath is such a bad idea, bathroom gets a pool of water when you have shower.

Breakfast must be poorest we had in Sicily. Fruits from a tin in country where you get fresh fruit everywhere? Even the cured meat didn't look very appetising. Hotel staff were very good though. I have given four stars mainly for the value for money and service.

Beautiful baroque hotel, beautifully done out with each room decorated with a different style. Our room was spotlessly clean with a lovely mosaic bathroom, powerful shower and all toileteries provided as well as slippers and towels. We had a huge comfortable bed and shutters which meant we had fantastic sleep even though the early morning sun was so bright. Breakfast was very good, with pastries, cereal, toast, hams and cheeses, lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt and a full range of drinks. Eggs were available on request at a small surcharge. The best thing was undoubtedly the staff though, who were there 24 hours at reception if we needed anything and proved really helpful in planning our days, catching the right buses etc. They were so polite and friendly and we felt really at home there for our 10-day stay. Catania itself doesn't have that much to offer for days out or beaches, but we managed to use it as a good base for trips to Syracuse, Taormna and Naxos and beaches further up the coast. We co0uldn't fault the hotel and it more than deserves its high reputation on tripadvisor.

We had a suite at this hotel that was well worth it. Air conditioned, spacious and comfortable. The staff was excellent - friendly and helpful. When we first arrived, it made us wonder (you can see it on Google maps)- small streets and graffiti but the hotel is first rate. It is in and excellent location for easy access to the city centre, shopping and meals. We spent 3 days here and walked to different parts of town from early morning to late evening. The place to stay if you want to experience the atmosphere of Catania. The breakfast staff was excellent and they put on a wonderful meal.

Room Tip: The corner suite had two rooms that consisted of two balconies and a very spacious terrace

When we arrived at this hotel by taxi from the station (euro 15 with luggage) we initially thought we had made a big mistake due to the arrow "back streets" and graffiti on every building surrounding the hotel. However we got a very pleasant surprise when we walked inside to lovely air conditioning and extremely helpful service with excellent Englsh. We discovered the hotel was within a less than 10 minute stroll of the city centre in all directions. The streets are very safe and we didn't once feel threatened in this city.

The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom clean, bright and beautifully designed. The warm floor (probably from the hotvwatervpipes running beneath the floor) was homely. Good lighting and mirrors fr makeup.

The room had a safe and the old world charm was homeland welcoming. Rooms extremely clean and the welcome sitter and complimentary sweet cakes were a nice touch?

Breakfast was well presented and eggs etc available at a small additional charge. The projector in the breakfast room featuring Mt Etna and other locations around Sicily was a nice touch.

No restaurant in this hotel but you could "order in" a nice meal at a reasonable cost.

I couldnt recommend this hotel more (and I am VERY particular!!)

We dined both nights at il sale (off via Etna) - onev of the main shopping streets. It was recommended by the hotel staff and was AMAZING - great service, excellent wine lst and blood variety of meals from pizza to steak and fish. The ravioli was to die for!

We were so glad to have stayed in this hotel. The room was fabulous. The decor throughout the hotel was so well put together, and with excellent attention to details. It is slightly out of the way but it only takes a few minutes walking to the centre. We found the locale more authentic as a result.

We would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The suite was incredible. Felt like staying at a palace.
