“Perfectly adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2015

Hotel Gresi is a perfectly adequate three star hotel. Certainly nothing fancy, an okay value for the money. The room was small, dark, and a bit musty, but seemed reasonably clean. The bed was uncomfortable but the location was good- just off via Etna which is the main drag in Catania.

+ well located in a side street off Via Etna, wifi worked very well plus AC
- poor breakfast, what was most strange was to be woken up when I had the 'do not disturb' sign by a young man on reception who kept shouting at me for having disturbed the maid. There must have been some misunderstanding as 30 mts earlier I had requested an extra pillow which the maid obligingly provided.I speak Italian fluently and did calm down the young man as I never understood why he was getting so worked up.

Room Tip: Don't book a single bed....very uncomfortable

Wasn't too sure when we arrived as taxi took us down a back street and the hotel is beside a huge market which had just closed and litter etc was everywhere. Hotel is on first floor of an old building. However it is just off Via Etnea and very central. Bus to airport was 1 euro when going home. Ceiling paintings are amazing and even in the bedrooms. Clean and comfortable, simple breakfast but very good. Very reasonable for location.

All you can ask for in a hotel: great location! Just around the awesome market of Catania (2 walking minutes), the famous elephant (10 walking minutes), the flea market (15 walking minutes). You are right in the middle of it all (yes, the University too).
Nice clean rooms, good breakfast (one of the tastiest croissants I ever had) and an unbeatable price! We paid 60 Euro for a room that could have slept three (one big double bed, one single).
Do not look further if you want to stay in Catania!

Room Tip: For a better view ask for a room facing the street. And I am talking about a quiet side street!

I recently stayed here while in Catania and it was decent! The staff were friendly, the place was clean (unlike Catania itself) and not too over priced, it was also in a good location so I'd recommend it.

Not great. Only spent one night here but beds uncomfortable, service monosyllabic, rooms dark and grim, and cockroaches in bathroom. On the plus side it has a lift, and is well-located in the centre of Catania.
