“Comfortable & clean place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

Nice place to spend a night. Is located little away from the Dumo. Room was very well decorated and comfortable. People who like night life it is very good.
The staff to receive us wasn't very warm & welcoming. Had some internet connection issues but the next day morning was resolved once Gabriella came. To find a parking was problem.

Very nice location with amazing staff, Gabriella help us a lot and give us very good recomendations about the island. The room was awsome. Good breakfast. The B&B is on the first floor, but the lift was too small for our stroller and we had to carry the stroller upstairs.

This little B&B is very conveniently located in Catania: it's within walking distance from the Dome and the main square, and there are a number of pleasant restaurants and bars nearby.
The staff was very helpful and very welcoming, and the rooms are very stylish and elegant. Ours was also very quiet, as it didn't overlook the street.
It's a lovely place to stay if you fancy a stay in Catania, but the town isn't ideal at all if you have a rented car. Driving standards aren't great, and looking at all the dents and bumps on the cars parked in the street doesn't inspire confidence. There is a secure car park nearby, but the area isn't great, and when we went to get our car the next day, we realised it was located right in the middle of a market, so navigating our way out was a slow and tense process.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which doesn't overlook the street.

We spent 4 nights here recently. The location is excellent on a quiet side-street off Via San Guliano just 5 minutes on foot from the Cathedral Square. We received a very warm welcome from the owner who gave us a guided tour of the city on the streetmap including all the relevant sights and where to eat. The room decor in the Purple Room was unusual to say the least and anything but standard but we found it very attractive. Breakfast was tasty including fresh pastries. Whoever was on reception was always willing to chat and we received an excellent recommendation for a guided Etna trip which was the highlight of our whole Sicilian trip. Catania itself is probably underrated, however we found it very interesting with some fantastic sights and the best food anywhere in Sicily.

in the heart of the city, walking distance to the sights and restaurants.

warm and heartly welcome of the host gabriella. the 4 rooms b&b with designed interior. the room was as described and we liked it. the breakfast is served 8.30-10 including tipical italian components (sweet) but also toast cheese/ham etc.

our host was very helpful for planing daytrips and getting around, especially you should follow her advice where to eat best pastry and local restaurants.

for your arrival, prepared with a zoomed printed out map of the city since the streets are narrow and often not named correctly.

Room Tip: we liked our golden room with small balcony

My husband and I have just returned from Sicily and have spent a week at the excellent Gem DeLuxe.
We got lost when we arrived as it was dark and late. After a frantic phone call Gabriella came and rescued us and then presented us with a bottle of champagne as it was our honeymoon. It couldnt have been a nicer welcome to Catania.
The B&B was wonderful and the service offered by Valeria and Gabriella was outstanding. Catania's one way system as well as the chaotic Italian driving can make things a bit stressful so it was so helpful to be shown how to leave the city in our hire car and have the parking explained to us.
The location was very central and rooms beautiful. It can get a little noisy but its the sound of a vibrant city living!
The best thing about the rooms in my opinion, the showers. Total luxury, especially after a day in the hot sicilian sunshine.
I loved Sicily and I loved its people and I really urge anyone considering a visit to look at this hotel.

Room Tip: Book a superior room on the front. Big long windows and lovely to soak up atmosphere of the city.

II could write here about the lack of parking places and the noise on the streets (although I think all the southern Europe city centers are like this we saw it before in Italy, in Spain, everywhere) :)

I could maybe try to find some negative point such as a lack of space to put the clothes if you come for more than 3-4 nights (but I spent there only 2) :)

I could complain about the breakfast although I've never managed to try ALL that was served :)

I could tell that there is no privacy there, as it's an apartment and not a hotel, although I've never seen other guests actually :)

I WON'T.

AND YOU KNOW WHY?
We've been travelling a lot across Italy and specially Sicily and we've never experienced such a warm welcome.
We were on our honeymoon and had to change the hotel because before we stayed in some "agriturismo" and it was really terrible, so we just picked up this place almost by accident, we made a reservation, packed our things and just came without thinking much. Before I wrote an email asking for nice room for a honeymoon stay. When we arrived we met an extremely nice girl who welcomed us with a bottle of champagne and a nice, well decorated room. She told us it's noisy by night and in fact it was quite noisy on Wendesday. But I find it normal if you decide to stay in the city centre (I definitely prefer it to stay in an quiet as a tomb farmhouse).

Gabriella was always there for us, and helped us in everything we asked and in everything we even didn’t ask because she knew exactly what the tourist usually needed. She was really helpful, nice and sweet. When we came back to Poland we found nice email from her.

I DON’T BELIEVE ANYBODY COULD BE UNHAPPY WITH THE SERVICE!!!!!!!!
And believe me, I AM PICKY.
As I can’t understand that anybody can find it poor value for money: we paid the same for the farmhouse in the mountain, with worms, dirty and @ 8 km to the nearest town. I find GEM DELUXE as an average Italian price for good accommodation. And I also prefer to pay money to people who care and who are interested if I’m happy or not than giving it to a big international hotel chain, where everything is so impersonal, including you.

We really spent great time there and I am quite sad because we don’t have more to do in Catania and we are really willing to come back there, so we’re just starting to look for an opportunity to go!

Room Tip: You should decide what is most important for you, there are rooms with balconies but those can be no...
