“Avoid paying the 8 euro entry fee!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013 via mobile

When approaching the Gola, drive 150 meters passed the big entrance. you will find the 'Ingresso communale'. using that will save you the 8 euro entry fee which is ridiculously high.... the gola is nice to see. spending a couple of hours.

“Well Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Amazing trip in a lift down to the foot of the gorge. Wear strong sandles/shoes so that you can wade in the icy waters up towards the gorge, or down further away. Can be very busy, but still worth the visit

“The Alacantara Gorge is lovely - no need to pay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Agree with the other reviews, if you are fit and able you can go down to the canyon via public access which is just down the road from the main car park. Its quite a steep descent and ascent on return down steps. From here you can take a steady paddle (heed the warnings on the signs) to the lovely beach and sit and relax and watch the people who have paid their 8 Euros for the same access.

“Great nature, fresh in summer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

The Gorge have been axcavated by the river Alcantara ("the river" in arabic) through basalt, which is a special kind of lava.

I advise you not to use the expensive lift, but to use the free entrance with stairs, which is at left just before a U turn to the right, and a bridge over the old railway, when going up .

Take your swimming tranks because you may swim or just refresh yourself from the summer heath.

“Gorge walking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Stopped here on an etna tour. if you want to walk down you have to go out the gate, turn left and walk about 100 metres up the road. Staff not helpful with directions. wroth the walk but not the 8 euros to use the lift. The gorge itself is pretty but not particularly deep.
