It took us some time to find the B&B since it is high in the mountain of Ortobene, but afterwards we saw it was only 10-12 minutes from Nuoro. At first, the entrance to the B&B seemed a little too narrow for our rental car, but after some time we got more experience in navigating through the gate. The garden where you can park your car seemed to us a bit neglected.
But these are all minor details: Mario and Frederique, the owners of the B&B, welcomed us extremely friendly and couldn’t wait to provide us with useful information about the region.
The room that we had was very comfortable, and from the balcony, where breakfast was served, we had a nice view over the valley.
Mario knows a lot about the Barbagia region which contains a lot of archaeological and geological secrets.
We were lucky: for a reasonable price, he offered to guide us (together with another couple) to the pre-historic Villaggio Nuraghe di Tiscali. I already had read in travel guides that the hike to Tiscali is long and difficult (and indeed it took us some sweat:-), but Mario succeeded in getting us all at the top of the mountain where the village was situated. During the hike the views over the valley were fantastic, it was a superb daytrip and without him we would never have been able to find Tiscali (see fotos).
Further he gave very good advice on other things to visit in the neighbourhood and where to have a typical Sardinian meal in Nuoro.
In summary, I very much recommend Casa Solotti since it is one of the most special B&B’s we had during our stay in Sardegna!
