We were surprised by how far out of Cagliari the hotel actually was, but this can be solved by the efficient bus service into the town centre (40 mins). The hotel itself is clean and has most of the things you would expect such as a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, tennis courts e.t.c. however there was not much to keep you occupied for a whole week in the hotel. There was only one retaurant and one bar across the road (a main road of which cars travel down at 50 mph). It was a tricky holiday if you can't speak Italian and we would recommend a car if you think you can brave the windy roads! Taxis are expensive, despite what the website information says, the taxi from the airport cost over double the price stated at 55 Euros for a 20 min trip!

n.b If you are in Cagliari and looking for a decent restaurant at extremely reasonable prices, check out Jannas on the via Sardegna, about half way down.

The hotel is along the road from Cagliari to Villasimius; 1 km from the beach. The front building is not very nice but inside facilities are a good value for money. Rooms are modern style with something of tipical; bathrooms are adeguate and clean. There is a nice swimmingpool, tennis court, a little soccer court. Good Restaurant and good breakfast buffet. There is wifi and 2 internet point. The bus stop is in front of the hotel and the bus goes to Cagliari; it takes about 20 minutes. The bus service stops at 11.00 pm.
The staff is very kind and helpfull.

I stayed at Hotel Califfo (Feb. 2007) with my husband and my 3-year-old son. We had a nice time there, very clean rooms, good breakfast and evening meals (very kind and patient staff!!!). The reception staff was very helpful when our rental car broke down. They called the car hire agency for us, as we do not speak italian, and organized a car to pick us up.
The hotel is situated a little far from Cagliari town, a own car is therefore absolutely necessary. This is a good hotel if you just want to relax and of course if you do not mind driving.

If you are looking for la dolce vita, stay away from this communist bunker-like soulless hotel. There is absolutely nothing to do in the area. The breakfast has no healthy option, consisting of oily pastries and cake and there are flies everywhere. The tea/coffee that you may/may not be offered in the morning will taste of salt as they use the tap water, which is apparently pumped straight from the sea. LIkewise in the shower so beware if you like your hair shiny and straight!

The rooms are, however, very clean (but basic and hostel like) and the staff are very friendly.

Management response from calif00, Manager
(Management representative)
Mar 26, 2007
Arriving in Sardinia in winter and expecting tropical temperatures may cause disappointment.
The area offers splendid naturalistic, archaeological and enogastronomical alternatives, but believing to find “la dolce vita” during the winter, is definitely an error.
Sardinia is an island that waits to be discovered in every time of the year and hides an infinity of naturalistic treasures. We recommend our clients to go to the sea between May and October, from November to April there are lots of other outdoor activities.

The clients’ satisfaction is our first objective, but it becomes very difficult when the principal expectations are completely different (climate, nightlife, beach tourism ecc.)

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further information.

Kind regards
Fausto Mura

We arrived at this hotel with the expectations you might have of a four star hotel. We were immediately disappointed. The rooms were small and and humid. We turned the airconditioner on, but nothing happened. We were told that the aircondition was controlled sentrally, and that there were certain time-periods for it. Well, the "on"-periods were apparently while we where not in the rooms...
Outside there was a wilderness and no maintenance of the "sports"areas such as mini-golf and tennisgrounds. We ended up staying, as much as we could, away from the hotel.
Even the unattended breakfast-room was an invitation to a breakfast, and lunch, somewhere on the way to the beach.

Not going back there...
