“Clean, comfortable, and in the heart of the old city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

We enjoyed our stay in this two bedroom apartment, with adequate and clean facilities. It's right in the heart of the old city, the castello, and everything we wanted to see on our two day stay was within walking distance, even with a five year old child. Parking is not easy, though; we ended up at the indoor parking on the Via Regina Elena (affordable, but be careful not to damage your rented car…). Breakfast is served in one of two bars nearby — an excellent solution.

Room Tip: We had the top apartment, number 7. It was roomy enough and everything worked.

To sum up the main points:
The apartments are high up, so if you can't walk uphill it will be difficult.
Learn some basic Italian, you are going to need it and take a phrasebook too. The one I took came in very handy. Not a lot of people we encountered spoke English.
Keep in mind that the supermarkets are sparse and not stocked well, so you will have to do a bit of walking to find one. Ice is hard to find.
There isn't much in the way of shopping around the area, or at least from what we could gather.
If you want to go to the beach take the FP or FQ buses. Or the letters might be round the other way but all the other buses have ordinary numbers anyway so you'll spot them a mile away.
Three days was enough for us to be satisfied. I would definitely recommend going to see it and the apartments but hopefully you'll find the information and the stuff we learned useful.

Being located inside the old city walls on top of the hill is a good idea as it is very picturesque and the views are fantastic. The cafe where you go to have breakfast has a lovely terrace and the views over the port and the city below are great. The breakfast is very basic (a coffee and a pastry) but delicious.

The accommodation itself (the ground floor one-bedroom flat) was clean and adequately furnished but a little dark because the streets are very narrow and the surrounding buildings high. The bathroom was on the small side and the shower difficult to turn around in. There were times when we ran out of hot water as well. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment apart from the microwave which had been taken away for repair and there was no other form of oven. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were awful - much too soft and insubstantial. The TV only has Italian channels.

The owner was there to meet us but didn't speak a lot of English and was grateful when he found out I could speak a little Italian. The card machine didn't work because there was a problem with the wireless connection and we had to go to the bank and change some money to pay the bill! We stayed there for three full days and we didn't see the owner again or any cleaning staff during this time so it really is self-catering apart from the breakfast.

Room Tip: Higher floors have small balconies
