I was there one night in late September as part of a motorcycle tour group. This is a large building beautifully located in front of the ocean and very pleasant a 15 minute walk down the waterfront to the center of town. The ladies at the front desk are informative but not courteous. When I complained that the wireless wasn´t working in the room one of them said the problem was with my computer! Sure enough the only decent wireless signal is near the front desk (look for several people huddled with their laptops). The room door doesn´t open unless you give it a big shove with your shoulder while inserting the cardkey (because we booked 11 rooms, we had a chance to see the hotel staff making several very compelling demonstrations of this!). The room has too much furniture in it so you keep bumping into things. The bathroom is excellent but the toilet is partly under the sink counter. There are no laundry facilities but there´s a very nice laundromat in one of the streets behind the hotel, about a five minute walk. The swimming pool is huge (seawater) and there´s a very nice bar by the pool to watch the sunset from (Alghero is known for good beer and excellent white wine). The service at the swimming pool bar is just like the front desk: you´ll have a chance to use your best verbal karate in several languages! In the evenings there´s a huge security guy standing just inside the front door. If security is an issue, the hotel should have warned us before we walked off to dinner!

Room Tip: Pick a room facing the pool. Although you´ll see the ocean sideways, it´s much quieter.

In the past 4 months I've stayed in the Carlos V hotel in Alghero, Sardinia on two occasions & enjoyed a very pleasant stay both times. The hotel is very well run, with a huge emphasis on customer service & professionalism...all staff were very friendly & helpful. The rooms are lovely & serviced daily by a lovely house keeping team. The hotel is situated at a height with beautiful sea views. It is a short walk to Alghero town centre, which is just perfect for an after dinner strol. I will certainly return here for another stay in Alghero.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are splendid but are more expensive.

On arrival at the hotel we were upgraged to a room in the front on the first floor. Beautiful view of the sea and the sunset. The room was large and very nicely decorated. The hotel is very modern and very elegant. The bed was huge and opened out onto a large balcony. There was a safe in the room, free of charge. Dressing gowns and slippers were also provided. The bathroom was lovely and had a large mirror on the back of the door and surround mirrors over the handbasin. The hotel has a large salt water pool which was quite deep at one end but a lifeguard is onsite. There is also a small pool for young children. There are plenty of sun loungers with umbrellas. Pool towels are provided free. Reception gives you a token on arrival which you give to the pool attendant when you want towels and you can exchange towels as often as you wish. The hotel staff are very friendly and the hotel is spotlessly clean. There are two restaurants at the hotel and also a pool bar. Complimentary biscuits are served during the day at the pool bar which is a nice touch. Breakfast is buffet style and is the usual selection of juices, fruits, meats, cereals etc. A chef was on hand to cook omelettes or poached eggs if requested but sometimes these were done a little on the undercooked side.
The hotel is in a great location, about 15 mins from the town along a lovely promenade overlooking the sea. The coves directly opposite the hotel are rocky but are still good for sunbathing or swimming. The sandy beaches are on the other side of the town. There are loads of restaurants and cafe bars in the vicinity so plenty of choice. The cost of a taxi from the airport is €25 and takes about 15 mins. There is a bus from the airport to the town centre that costs €0.90 which takes 20 mins but the walk to the hotel is about 15 mins after that and not too good if you have luggage and its a warm day. The taxi on the way back to the hotel costs €30 as it has to come from the town to the hotel to collect you. Prices at the hotel for food or drink was quite reasonable considering it is a 5 star hotel.
I would definitely rate this as a good hotel and would happily go back there again.

Room Tip: See if you can get a room in the front of the hotel. Definitely worth it. Views spectacular especi...

The rooms were nice and the view across the bay was magnificent. The breakfast was superb, as you'd expect and the pool was great. The hotel's location was great, just 10 mins walk from the town centre. The only complaint was the pillows: the quality was a bit poor with an option to 'buy' a better quality easy-on-the-neck pillow for 3 euros. This should have come as standard for a hotel of this standard.

Room Tip: Try and get a sea view.

Great Hotel, lovely pool, can high recommend the ocean view rooms.
The hotel is south of the old town. Approx a 15 min walk to the action of the old town. Its a good hours walk to the great beaches north of the old town. But you can easily take a bus or taxi (10 min ride). We mainly stayed by the pool (which is sea water bizarrely).

Only negative is that the queen size double was in fact 2 large singles mattress pushed together in one large bed frame (i think this is a European thing). Hotel seems popular with Brits, Germans and Scandinavians.

We stayed for one week during low-season in October when only a fraction of the hotel is occupied. The building is situated just nearby the city center of Alghero. Rooms and other facilities are of high standard although we wonder if the pool area is big enough during high season. Hard to tell in October when you feel like a king almost alone in the great salt water pool. However the edge of this hotel is its staff, the service level and without any doubts the restaurant food. We tried a number of restaurants in the city center but nothing could compete with their “Imperial” restaurant. The atmosphere is genuine and one really feels that the staff is truly service minded. We would strongly recommend a stay at Carlos V, especially during low season.
