“A pleasant diversion but not too much there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

The Norman walls remain and the fortress has been restored to its original appearance but there is much less to see than in other similar forts and you cannot access the walls. There is a good museum inside with sculpture and artifacts of the fortress and local churches.

“Exterior View Better than Interior”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

The exterior of this castle is very large and somewhat impressive and so we paid the 3 euros to tour it. Not much to see other than the remains of some frescos and old stones. Having traveled all over Europe, I was not very impressed with the sparse interior and did not spend a great amount of time touring it.

“not terribly exciting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

there is a museum of plaster casts inside. not too much to see otherwise. it is really more fun to sit at a café across the street and look at the castle. some good history, so make sure you have a guidebook.

“smaller inside”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

I was a bit surprised at the 3€ entrance - when you can go to pompeii for 11€ or walk around surprising matera for free -but everything has its price. inside is a lot smaller than it looks and you can't see most of the upstairs anyway so its a quick walk around. don't miss the information on the computor screen just inside the first hall - this information is longer than the actual visit itself, and is very descriptive, with 3D images to explain the history of the castle. I almost walked away during the explanations (it lasted a good 15mins) but hang in there as there are few descriptions afterwards in the castle rooms. they have been very modernised with detector lighting which turns on as you approach. there was a temporary exhibition while I was there which filled up most of the upstairs room, but it was very modern and felt a bit out of place. not really worth 3€ to go in, but the building itself was pretty from the inside

“Norman Castle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

This place has so much potential- it is a magnificent structure which is wonderfully preserved and contains a beautiful collection of artefacts but there was virtually no information available either in terms of an audio guide or written information beside each artefact describing its age or function. What a great pity not make the most of this fascinating attraction.
