“Location, location ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2007

Pluses: The location was excellent - very close to the main area (Piazza Bra), but on a quiet side street. An easy, short walk from the bus stop and easy to find. We called from the train station and were met promptly at the door . Our room (double superior) was actually a small studio, with a seating area and a kitchen area (though one of the many rules posted in the room is no eating meals in the room, so ...). It was nice to have the extra room after several nights with more typically sized rooms. Very clean.

Breakfast was the usual continental style, but it was fun to sit at the large table and chat with other guests, mainly Europeans.

We especially enjoyed having The Adriatico almost directly across the street, , an outdoor cafe with some of the best food and service we found in Verona - great for those late nights when we were too tired for yet another walk.

Minuses: Too many rules - 13 of them, which I found a bit off-putting. Sheets & towels only changed every three days. We were only there for 2 nights, but it might have been a problem if we'd stayed longer, especially because this is one of those bathrooms where the floor gets all wet after you shower.

We asked for a large bed but got two twin beds, not made up together as usual.

Breakfast only til 9:30, which worked okay for us, but most other places offer it til 10 am. Also, check-out is at 9:30 am, which seems unreasonable, though we had an early train to catch anyway. The lighting was rather poor throughout - not easy to put on make-up, impossible to read before bed.

My husband and I just returned from our holiday in Italy. We visited a couple of cities and were very pleased with the accomodations in both Torino and Bologna. B&B All'Opera was not only much more expensive than the privious ones, but also offered less. After announcing our arrival time by phone, we were welcomed by a nice lady, who was a stand-in, because the owners were out of town. Unfortunately the elevater didn't work, so it was quite an effort to get our luggage to the highest floor. We were given a very small room (Butterfly/nr.10), with the side of the bed against a wall. So my husband had to climb over me at night, in order to reach the bathroom. The bathroom had a very low ceiling, so I had to be very careful not to bump my head after using the toilet.
The room itself looked very nice, but was very small in comparisson with other, as we found out later. We were also a bit surprised by the ''rules'' we found in our room, like breakfast availability for only one hour (8:30-9:30), not allowed to eat anything in your room, no cleaning of the room if you're at your room, a luggage service for E 5 per item and so on.
The next morning, when we went for breakfast, there were a couple of people in the room, and it was unclear who the owner/host was. As it turned out later, it was one of the guest on her way out, who invited us to have a seat. The host never introduced herself or welcomed us, even not after she had finished her business with other guests. We felt completely ignored. Later, the host said in good English that she didn't speak any English. Well, she could have said something in Italian instead, which would not have bothered us. Anyway, the next morning we noticed she couldn't be nicer to an Italian guest, while she hardly took notice the other guests. While my husband and I had taken all what was left of the juice (half a glass), she didn't refill at all, so the others after us had to settle with water instead. For our last morning, we asked if it would be possible to have breakfast served a little bit earlier, because of our flight, As we already expected with this host, this was not the case. After suggesting several times, she agreed to put some yoghurt and brioches in our fridge.
Overall I would say the location is great, the room was very well maintained (beware not to get the smallest one!), but the host was no host in the sense I usually experience.

This is a great little B&B centrally located and just a few minutes walk from the arena. Our group of nine stayed for two nights - we were celebrating our friends birthday by going to the opera. We had some great recommendations from the owners (who gave us a warm welcome) for restaurants and what to see. They have tastefully renovated the whole building and the rooms are furnished in keeping with the house, but with contemporary bathrooms and air conditioning. When Stephania found out it was our friends birthday she and her husband gave her a present and made her feel really special. The breakfast room is small with only a couple of tables so you will have to share. Its also not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties as there are steps to negotiate before you get to the (very small) lift. The whole place is non smoking. If you want something with all the usual hotel facilities this is not for you but if you want to stay right next to Piazza Bra (only five minutes walk to the taxi rank and bus stops) and the arena, this is just perfect.

This fabulous little B&B is a wonderful find. For hardly more than a 3-star hotel on the periphery, you can get 4-star treatment right in the center of town, just a block off Piazza Bra. Though it’s on the upper floors of a building with only a tiny, slow elevator (which you need to walk up a flight to get into), this B&B is spotless, modern and attractive with a beautiful, spacious room and bath. Breakfast is terrific and all the staff offer friendly, personalized service. Stefania was so helpful, giving us excellent restaurant recommendations and making reservations on the spot. But remember, it’s not a hotel: they only change the linens and towels every 3 days, breakfast is served only 8:30-9:30, rooms are cleaned only 9:30-11, check-out is quite early, and you’ll need to call to arrange your check-in. But If you’re coming for opera season and don't have bulky bags, this place can’t be beat.

We stayed for two nights, and our son and daughter-in-law for one night, to go to the opera. We have stayed at the Accademia, but most hotels were full for our late booking. This must be some of the nearest accommodation to the Arena, but it is so secluded even our taxi driver couldn't find it. It's just a doorway in a side street, with a few beautiful individual rooms with traditional furniture and lovely modern bathrooms. Breakfast was a good buffet of fantastic pastries, fruit, etc., - but the downside was that all the guests sat at a large table - and I am not sociable first thing in the morning!

If you just want a delightful room in the middle of Verona, with helpful owners, rather than full hotel facilities, this is highly recommended.

On the plus side, the rooms here are big, comfortable and homey - almost like studio apartments. The location is great - near the roman arena and piazza delle erbe.

The downsides are arriving with a car was difficult. The b&b is on a tiny one-way street with minimal parking, making it hard to pull up and unload. The b&b offers a discount rate at a parking lot about a 10-15 min walk away - kind of a long way to haul your luggage.

The breakfast wasn't very exciting - the owner said they don't have a license to cook or prepare anything homemade so it's all store bought.

I also had some difficulty coordinating with the owners. This is really a B&B - there's no front desk and the feeling is that you're on your own. When we arrived we had to wait a while for someone to show up and let us in. Also, they require a 30% deposit via electronic transfer when you book the room - which is highly unusual in Italy. All in all, I prefer more flexible, attentive service, although the owner seems really nice once you get her talking.

Like the other comment on this hotel I really don't want to share it with anyone but really feel I must.
From our initial email enquiring about vacancies to settling the bill it was a delight. The hotel would be missed if you didn't know it was there and this in my view is a plus. The whole building is finished to a superb standard witrh all the rooms different. To say ours was spacious was an understatement. We were greeted by the owners daughter who explained everything (she actually noticed our friends radiator was not working properly a quick call to her father and this was fixed). Two excellent genuine restaurants were recommended both very local. The location itself is superb being right next to the arena. Breakfast is served by the owners and was delightfully presented to us each day.
Verona is great and this hotel IS a real gem as we said and made for a superb weekend!
