We decided to have a light lunch at Calmiere Restaurant after our visit to San Zeno. Our first question was "Do you speak English?" and the waiter said "Yes". However, that was the only word in Engish that he knew. I don't mind that he did not speak English, since I can get by with my bad Italian. However, lying about it should have given us an indication of things to come. First of all, they charge a "Coperto" of several Euros per person which is a cover just for the fact that you are sitting at the table. Secondly, they charge a steep "Service Fee" which means that they decide what percentage tip they should get. Thirdly, the prices are very expensive compared to other similar restaurants in Verona. And finally, the waiter came around several times showing us pre prepared plates asking if we wanted a portion and would give us a dirty look when we would decline.
Overall, we paid well above average for our food, got stuck with both copertos and service fees and what we got was an uncomfortable experience.
