“Definitely not our first choice”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

We were meant to stay at the hotel Giberti but were put in this hotel due to an overbooking. We were told there was a free shuttle bus, but that turned out to be only for the first afternoon we were there, and we were told that it stopped picking up at 7.30 in the evening.

There is nowhere nearby to eat, and we often got a taxi back (about 10 euro) in the evening as we weren't too sure if the walk back (about 20 minutes from the edge of the old town) was safe at night, especially with all the large busy roads to cross.

The hotel room was clean, and you couldn't hear the traffic outside, but the corridor and main entrance smelt of a mixture of sewage and bleach. The breakfast was disappointing with not very many options.

The staff were quite abrupt and seemed unapproachable, they also didn't seem very knowledgeable about things to do in the area.

Since returning we have found that this hotel is far cheaper than the one we originally booked. I would not recommend this hotel and will not be staying there again.

Situated in an industrial area of Verona adjacent to the railway station and close to the Verona exhibition. Good motorway access. The hotel is actually situated about 2,5 km from the entrance of the old city. This distance is not very reassuring to walk in the middle of the night, although hotel staff reassured us it is safe.
Reception staff were just about polite but poorly informed. Most answers were "no" or "I don"t know" without any attempt to help. Shuttle to town centre is 3 euro/person and you have to book in advance. Also after the opera finishes at night , you may have to wait up to 50 min till your turn comes to return to the hotel.
The rooms were decent with nice and clean bathrooms. Wifi is 3 euros/h.
The hotel offers free bicycle rental which is a good way to explore the old city. There is an outdoor parking.
Breakfast room is rather poor. Breakfast menu is Ok, though the coffe was of poor quality. Overall the hotel is ok, but would probably stay elsewhere if I visit Verona again.

The hotel is situated in an industrial area 2 km from Verona City Center and immediate to a well-trafficked road. In the surrounding area there are most "kebabs" and other restaurants in that style. The “better restaurants” in the area were closed so if you would like to have a meal, go to the city center as the hotel itself doesn’t serve any meals in the evening.

The hotel has its own parking lot without any charges for guests. In the late evening all guests cars couldn’t be parked there, but outside the hotel it’s easy to find a safe parking place. The Internet is very costly and it's cheaper to use the mobile for surfing.

At the hotel’s homepage, you can easily get the impression that the hotel is more luxury than it really is. The building is not so nice in the reality so a new guest perhaps thinks that wrong hotel has been booked. But the rooms are very nice and quiet, however with views over the trafficked road or over the industrial area. I had a room faced to the trafficked road but couldn’t hear any noise at all from the traffic, so windows and walls seemed to be very well isolated!

During my stay, I could see in the reception some men and one woman. All men wore a black suit with white shirt and they had all stone faces. As they couldn’t smile, I began to connect this behavior to what I remember from the movie “The Godfather”. Only a smile, a little, little, little smile please, and I hadn’t written this!

Have you ever dreamt about to go in a racer car with a professional racer driver at, for example, Monza racetrack? It can be expensive! It’s much cheaper to go with the hotel shuttle to Verona Center. It costs 3 € with return (and is not free which the hotel writes in their own homepage) and will give you an extraordinary experience. In small, narrow roads the shuttle bus goes in a maximum speed and if you haven’t needed safety belts before, you need them now if you would like to remain at your seat. You will also get a free lesson in traffic law, that green means “drive” and red sometimes also means “drive”, depending if there are other vehicles in front of the shuttle bus or not. And if you go to listen to wonderful opera music at the fantastic Arena di Verona during summertime and have Verdi´s, Puccini´s or Bizet´s music in your ears when you will go back to the hotel by the shuttle bus, you will enter the vehicle with a terrible pop music from the car's loudspeakers at a high volume.

The breakfast was “OK” and what you normally can demand in an Italian hotel. However, the coffee was terrible and disgusting.

Conclusion: The hotel has its advantages but also disadvantages, some of them easy to eliminate with a more welcoming behavior from the male receptionists and also with shuttle drivers who can transport the guests normally and also without disturbing music. I don't think I will choose this hotel when I come back to Verona. The male staff's behaviour, the racer driving with the shuttle bus as well as it's free of charge according to the homepage but not in the reality, make me hesitating.

Hotel was very clean, with some really nice bathrooms. Most importantly the air condition in our room worked perfectly. Breakfast with a good selection of items too. on the negative side, the shuttle service provided from the hotel to the opera and back was not free of charged as was advertised on Hotel San Pietro's website. No restaurant either and the bar is very limited as it closes too early. But we were very comfortable here.

Hotel suits are specious and clean. Servie is prompt. Windows are fitted with noise barrier. so no vehicle noise inside. Breakfast was good; however there is no attached restaurant to the hotel. You need to go out for lunch and dineer. Overall experience is good.

We stayed at this hotel whilst we visited Verona, as it was opera season it was impossible to get in the centre of verona as all the hotels were very busy and rates were extortionate so we choose this hotel as the website we booked through stated it provided a free shuttle into Verona, we actually discovered this shuttle is only free on the way into verona and you pay on the way back and it also only runs on opera nights. the shuttle is 3 euros pp or a taxi is 10 euros.

When we checked in we had a few questions on the best way to get into verona on the hotel bikes which you could hire for free from the hotel, the girl we spoke to didnt even know where the hotel was on the map! all our questions were answered with very short yes no replies. When we tried to book our places on the shuttle we had to make several calls to reception as we were fobbed off twice... over all we found them a bit curt and dismissive.

The actual location of the hotel wasnt very nice, in a very industrial area which wasnt particularly nice to be walking around in at night (and since getting taxis in verona is not easy when there are only 200 in the whole city, walking back is quite likely if youre out on a busy night)

The rooms are nice enough, and bathrooms are clean and have a huge shower, mini bar in the room, aircon, wifi (3 euros p/h) TV, modern decor... did the job at the end of the day.

The breakfast was great though, scrambled eggs, meats, cheeses, selection of cerels, fresh fruit, pastries, toast, yoghurts, selection of juices, coffees and teas... more than ample for a continental!

Overall i think the Hotel San Pietro is more geared up for the business traveller as opposed to tourists.

I chose this hotel on the way to verona based on the price. It is far from the city center. We parked the at the hotel, no extra charge, and checked. The guys at the reception are very fruendly and helpful. He said we could take the bus to the city or he could give us bycicles for free. That was a nice idea so we took the bikes. 10 minutes ride to the center. Vety friendly roads. We tied the bikes near the arena and walked through the beautiful streets of Verona. The next day we wete happy to take the bikes again and rode all through the city with them. Better than walking. You get so much more done in less time.
The room was pretty new, big and very clean. Best hotel in the trip so far.
