“Surreal Experience: Aida in Verona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

Surreal = watching a 140 year old opera set in 3rd millenium BC while sitting in the actual 2000 year old arena while a modern jet liner flies overhead. The opera experience in Verona is so Italiano -- totally over the top!! HUGE scenery changed out every night. Must be over 600 performers! Not to mention the arias, the orchestra and the special effects -- like flooding the stage and floating a boat across it. We reserved early expensive tickets which were worth it. But if you have time and the ability to purchase general admission, the view from the top would be extraordinary and much cheaper. Our only regret -- that we didn't book two nights and see Nabu the next night. Tip: Take your own wine in in a water bottle.

“Verona, Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

We visited Verona in July this year as part of a choir tour to Italy. Verona was a pleasant surprise, although we were disappointed to hear that Romeo and Juliet never lived there! The walking tour started off with a view of the river (which reminded me a little bit of Prague) and then to the old town centre, and of course, Juliet's balcony. (A bit crowded, though! I couldn't even get close to Juliet's statue) The tour guide was lovely, although she was a bit rushed and didn't give us enough time to explore. Later on we realized why - she did another walking tour!
Verona is beautiful - I loved the atmosphere, the beautiful architecture and then of course, the Arena. Everything within walking distance. That night we went back to the Arena for the experience of a lifetime - the opera Aida. Once again, the atmosphere was amazing, with thousands of people eagerly awaiting the performance. Soon the lights of thousands tiny candles (I will always associate the smell with that night), the music (wonderful acoustics), the technical wizardry of the lights, decor, choirs, soloists, orchestra. It was a beautiful night, with the moon lingering just above the horizon. Unforgettable.

“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

We visited Verona for a concert and thought the city was beautiful. There was lots to see and do, and walking around was a joy. The Arena is one of the focal points of the city and extremely interesting to visit and explore. The views of the outside are spectacular, but climb the steps on the inside to the very top and prepare to have your breath taken away. A wide angle lens is a must to get everything in! If you don't have a tickets for the opera or a concert, be a cheapskate (like we did one night!) and listen instead sitting on a seat in the little park outside or one of the restaurants with outdoor seating.
