This was our 4th time in Verona but the 1st time at this hotel and we will definitely return. It is a one minute walk to the opera (arena) and as mentioned by somebody else, you can see the arena when you step out of the door. The front desk staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, especially Roberta who patiently answered our questions after returning from the opera after 1 a.m. in the morning. The rooms are small but not tiny. This is typical for Verona & Europe so do not expect to find anything bigger anywhere else in Verona. This is only a 3 star hotel but the service is better than any Hilton or Marriott 5 star hotel we have ever stayed at. The amenities are basic (3 star) but the rooms and bathrooms are spotless and the rooms are serviced incredibly well each day. The bathrooms have all been updated and the owner actually takes pride in the hotel. The breakfast is not lavish but more than adequate with plenty of variety. People who do not rate this a 5 are forgetting that it is only a 3 star hotel. You definitely get 5 star service. The lift is tiny, typical Italian style - this comment is just for the whiney people who are taken by surprise. We found it quite adequate besides we took the stairs to walk off the delicious gelato. Our favourite gelato store was "Pistachio" - turn right after restaurants opposite arena. It is on the right hand side of the road just before you get to the castle - I highly recommend it - way nicer than the gelato at the stores opposite the arena. We enjoyed Café Emmanuel opposite the arena after the opera. Added entertainment - the opera singers walk past about an hour after the performance which adds to the atmosphere. There is also a huge Spar supermarket very close to the castle which is a short walk from the hotel so a great economical way to stock up on water, groceries, toiletries, wine, fruit, etc.
