This gem of a hotel is 3 miles (5 km) outside of town. It is recommended to have a car; however, there is a bus, about 400 m down the road. I chose to walk to and from town each day, which I loved. My room was spacious and cheerful, with a nice balcony and comfortable bed, nice restroom, and wonderful TV where I watched a retro music video channel for 4-5 days straight! The staff are very efficient and Nicola (the owner's son) was so friendly. Massimo at reception went above and beyond the call of duty by going online and booking me a return train ticket to Venice. He was patient and earnest in his work. Breakfast had a wide variety of choices but because so few people were in the hotel (only 4 rooms at Christmas) they kept on having to put the same things out, day after day, so things weren't always completely new and fresh (but they were still fine and it wasn't their fault, really). I wish there had been more restaurants and/or shops right nearby, because it's a bit outside of town. There was no road noise or ambient noise, which was nice. I recommend this hotel to anyone and would LOVE to see it in another warmer season when the nearby vineyards are in bloom. Thank you La Grotta! :)
Some have balconies which must be charming in warmer weather! :)
