“Good Japanese food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

We could see this restaurant from our hotel room so thought we would give it a try after reading positive comments on TA.

We turned up with a booking on a Saturday night and were probably lucky to get a table. Our waiter insisted many times as he showed us to our table that we must finish in 90 mins.

There was a good choice of beer and wine so had a Asahi and prosecco for the 2 of us. We weren't quite sure what to do with the sushi as the table next to us had walked to the belt to get theirs - we did this too but you can order off the menu. Either way the sushi was great and obviously used great quality fish.

We chose teppanaki dishes for our main course - mixed fish in teriyaki sauce and sea bass with ginger together with some fried rice. All were really tasty although the sea bass only had a hint of ginger and had many bones in it - which is less convenient when you only have chop sticks.

We finished after 55 mins and then had a real problem catching the waiters attention. Considering they wanted our table it was frustrating they didn't come and ask about dessert and didn't make getting the bill at all easy.

Despite the difficulties at the end we had a good meal and would come back again.

“Nice Japanese food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

I went to Ikai with my wife because it was close to our hotel. First impressions is that the place has nice, contemporary decor and seems to be very popular. We were not in the mood for Sushi so we ordered the Teppanyaki fish and some fries rice. Both were excellent. Sitting in a spot at he back of the restaurant where we could see the chef working was entertaining. Our first order was taken very quickly but it took us a long time getting our dessert order placed and getting the attention of the waitress to pay the bill. Overall pleasant experience and I would return.

“Pretty Good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

Very good value restaurant with pretty good Japanese food. The place seems to be entirely staffed by Chinese people so some things like the Tempura were a little inauthentic and our waiter didn't even know the Japanese names of the dishes.

“Not only for sushi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

Everytime I go to Ikai i find more reasons to go back. Subdued lights and tasteful decorations make for a pleasant atmosphere. Fresh and not-for-granted sushi, the lightest tempura and a choice of tasty and surprising courses make for a culinary joy. Desserts are well worth, the laquer box with a chocolate melt-in-the-middle and a scoop of green tea icecream is an irresistible treat.
Too bad nothing comes cheap..... but it's not too bad either!

“As good as japanese food can get in italy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

Considering the lack of authentic japanese restaurants in italy, this chinese owned japanese restaurant is as good as this food can get in italy. The location is very good , the staff is very curteous and efficient, the ambiance is a bit dark but nice, clean and modern. The dishes are well proportioned and fresh.
