“Chic residence, centrally located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

We booked three nights at this location and loved it! We had a little problem when we arrived, but it was our mistake. We needed to advise of our arrival time as there is no on-site manager. We managed to reach the owner by phone, and the house butler met us ten minutes later. This hotel is only a few blocks from the Arena di Verona and is central to almost everything in this charming city. We booked a "deluxe prive" suite which gave us a sitting area, a private bathroom (with very cool light therapy and the biggest rain-shower head ever!), a balcony, and a 2nd level bedroom. This was the most comfortable bed we had in 21 days in Italy. Note to the tall people: the ceiling beams are quite low... my husband and I are both 5'10" and we could not stand fully upright (we managed to avoid bumping our heads too often). The breakfast room was sunny and spacious. And as others have mentioned, great cappuccino! This was the most expensive accommodation on our holiday, but it was definitely worth the cost. If we get to Verona again one day (and I hope to!), I would stay at this hotel again.

Ok, so it was a last minute choice as an extremely popular pop star was at the arena that night. That being said, the cost was very high. Our room, called a suite, had no full height walls. We also had no blankets and could not get any past 11 that night. The shower was tiny, the toilet raised so that you could not put your feet on the ground, and luckily we did not need to sleep on the pull out sofa under low lying rafters. The breakfast room was beautiful and our room was clean and seemed new. Bottom line, too much money for what you get.

This is a well located, stylish studio which has a kitchenette and even a washing machine which was very welcome after some time away from home. Our room was very comfortable and quiet with an excellent air conditioner and the most reliable free internet we used in our 3 weeks in Italy. Although we had a kitchenette (no dishwasher) a very adequate breakfast was served in a very oleasant breakfast room. There was an automatic coffee machine in the breakfast room so we were able to start our day with a few cappuccinos.
There is no resident caretaker so you have to be fairly sure of your arrival time to be met and taken through different sets of locked gates and doors to the studio. We did feel very secure once there and it was very quiet!
The caretaker was very helpful and obliging but for a tourist his English was not good enough to get restaurant recommendations and general tourist information. If the internet had not worked so easily I don't think we could have sorted that out.
The place was an easy walk to the Piazza and the Roman arena and shops. The train station is a 15EUR taxi ride.

First, service beyond the call of duty. Our bags were delayed between flights. Paula (owner) went out of her way to ensure that we recieved our bags and change of clothes for the Opera that night. She was FANTASTIC and "thanks again Paula".
The room was immaculate and one of the best showers ever. There was a little noise from a family staying there also but it never bothered us.
The position is fantastic and I loved the street where it is situated. 100 yards to a great little restaurant. We ate there both nights and thought the food was superb with terrific service.
Breakfast was Continental and very good.
Going to the Opera or just wanting a central position? I thoroughly recommend staying here.

WORD of WARNING - This is not a hotel and Norman, the concierge, is part time. If you are going to be late (or early) phone Paula and let her know. Otherwise there may be no one to let you in. If you cant do that there is a phone no on the Plaque by the door.

This is a charming residenza in the heart of Verona a few steps from Piazza Bra. So make sure you understand that it's not a hotel with front desk and other services.

It's a building with some rooms used as "Bed and Breakfast".

We arrived there December 31st, 2010 and since we knew this kind of hotel from previous (bad) experiences in Rome we called before arriving to make sure there would be someone to welcome us. We were very surprised with the formality and seriousness of the staff and were introduced to Mr. Numan, wich is the person responsible for the Residenza. He was very helpful and solicitous.

The breakfast was excellent and served in a very charming room.

The only problem was that our bathroom was outside the sleeping room. It was private but in order to rich it we had to go through a corridor that was shared with the other room, whose bathroom was in the same corridor. There was a moving divider that isolated our doors from the rest of the corridor (it was a little bit weird). Our room had two stories, the last one having a double bed. The problem was that the ceiling in this part of the room was very low and we could not stand straight.

So, if you plan to stay in this place make sure to book a room whit the bathroom in it. Call them first. It was a shame, since the location is perfect, the common areas are very beautiful, the service is very good and the breakfast is excellent. They have other rooms and some others are being refurbished, so make sure to book the other rooms.

If you plan to travel with children to Verona, you should check out Residenza Giuseppe Verdi. When we arrived late this past Thursday night, we were a little put off by no elevator. Then when we reached our room, our two children were on twin beds (one couch / one cot - both top quality), with a small walkway inbetween up to our loft bedroom. I'm 6'2" and my wife is 5'8" - the loft is perfect for someone 5'7" or shorter. I lightly bumped my head a half dozen times over my 2 night stay. Of course, when you are in bed - the ceiling does not come into play, but when you are dressing, packing, etc. its a nuisance to say the least.

My family travelled with another family of 5 who were split between 2 rooms. One of these rooms was a true gem. It was approximately 600 square feet with a queen sized bed, small efficiency kitchen and a pullout couch that could sleep 2 together. TIP: Request this room (or similar) You can say "I'd prefer to not stay where the breakfast room is, but across the courtyard" These are apartments, so you will be staying alongside Verona locals in one of the most central locations just a few steps from the Arena / town center.

Mr. Numan, the butler is VERY accomodating. He greets you in the morning at breakfast. Standard Italy breakfast fare: lots of bread, rolls, meat, cheese, etc. and Mr. Numan handles your coffee / cappuccino / hot chocolate / etc. When you leave for the day, your room is made up and towels replaced just like a hotel. One small gripe, when we were leaving, Mr. Numan did not have contacts or ability to call us taxi cabs. Instead we were instructed to walk 1/4 mile to the cab stand. The walk is not a big deal, but there is no telling how long you might need to wait for a cab.

While we were on our visit, we were provided with EXCELLENT restaurant recommendations including one for a special birthday dinner. When we reached the restaurant, a bottle of champagne was waiting for us - compliments of the hotel!! I don't think I've experienced that before - quite a nice touch.

We stayed at the Residenza Giuseppe Verdi for the first three nights of our two weeks in Northern Italy. An aparthotel in a residential-looking period building, the Giuseppe Verdi is new and very recently (but sensitively) refurbished. We were welcomed by the lovely Paola who was very kind and attentive throughout our stay. We had a Junoir Suite with a nice kitchen area with coffee machine, shower room and even a washing machine, everything looked new and spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was lovely in a beautiful room with balcony, original floor and frescoes, necessarily small but nice selection of continental buffet breakfast.
The apartment is on a side street very close to the arena, which was ideal for us as we had opera tickets for our last evening, easy walking distance to everything else.
Wifi in rooms usually i think, though wasnt available when we were there at the end of August (due to issues with Italian utilities in August as is their holiday-time), but Paola was more than happy for us to use the ADSL connection and printer downstairs from the breakfast room.
We found the place lovely and ideal for what we normally look for in Italy - somewhere in the middle of things and a bit luxurious but still low-key and not touristy, like having your own little flat for the weekend. Although the building is nice do not expect an obvious hotel frontage and reception, if you dont find that aspect of a hotel important, the place is ideal. NB fantastic restaurant on the same street called Trattoria La Griglia, definately worth trying!
