After a long hot day, an evening between opera performances, all we wanted was a good meal in quiet surroundings, close to the hotel.
We found this whilst we men sneaked off for an early evening drink in the Piazza dell'Erbe and booked for 9.00pm, after the opera crowd had departed.
Well, admittedly we were 15 minutes late (not bad for southern Europe) but we had to wait another 15 minutes for our table, ameliorated by free glasses of prosecco! From there on, things simply got better! A good table on the edge of the cool courtyard and attentive service. The food was good all round the table - exceptional reviews for a risotto with summer truffles, for the veal chop, and the branzino.
All in, an excellent evening in a restaurant "protected" from the tourist hordes and at a price which seemed very reasonable - 190€ for 4 including a good choice of wines.
