“Great food for snacks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Restaurants tend to be quite expensice in Venice (in the evenings for 2 of us we averaged 60 euros for a starter, main course and bottle of wine). Brek for a snack plus (e.g. pasta dishes plus a bottle of wine) averaged 15 Euros!

Great value, OK it is self service, but the choice for say lunch or mid afternoon meal was incredible value.

“Fast food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

A great value cheap & cheerful place where we can eat lunch in the cool air conditioned surroundings. Nice to be able to self-serve and pick from the hot mains and freshly cooked pastas, salads, fruit and desserts. Good value and quite drinkable wine on tap, a welcome easy eat experience in a sometimes daunting and expensive city.
Also the bar has good sandwiches and donuts for a quick bite and good to take away for the train. I recommend buying snacks here rather than on the train or in the station as they're cheaper and you get a much bigger choice.

“Avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

We visited this place on a recommendation.unfortunately this was by far the worst meal we had in Venice.we started with stale bread rolls , followed by unremarkable pasta, finished with stale cake.the cost was a reasonable 25 euros for two including bottled water, but we had previously had a decent sit down Pizza meal just off st marks square for about the same cost during the same trip so on the whole value was not enough to excuse the poor quality food and miserable service.toilets were also filthy.

“Best value in Venice?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Came across this restaurant whilst looking for leather goods; away from St Mark's Square, it is quite close to the main railway station. For just a few euros you can stand at the counter and choose your pasta, pizza or roast dishes. There is also a salad bar and a dessert bar, and you can pour your own beer. The food is fresh, prepared when you ask for it, and definitely better than canteen food. Venice has a wealth of overpriced tourist restaurants, if you need a good value lunch whilst shopping for bargains, this is it!

Top marks to them too when I left my camera behind and dashed back in a panic, they had already put it in the safe!

“Best budget Restaurant in Venice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

After a few bad experiences while eating out in Venice, we chanced upon Brek. It's very 'modern fast food' in its ambience which is somehow comforting for travellers who have had an overdose of the outdoor trattorias and ristorantes that offer traditional Italian romanticism and long for something more familar. And thankfully it comes devoid of overbearing stewards and waiters!

But the best part lies in the pricing. We had the Pasta of the day combo (at 10 Euros) which included a healthy portion of Mushroom Risotto and Octopus Spaghetti. We went back to finish our meal with a lovely Tiramisu (I think it was around 6-8 Euros) at the end. The food was good and wholesome, the preparation was par excellence and the pricing was quite economical.
