“Great price, Great location!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2011

We visited Venice in April and stayed at Locanda La Bricola. Just as another reviewer said, you have to look for Trattoria La Bricola as it very close to impossible to find it for the first time. The room we had was a bit small for my tastes however beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable bed and had no problems with hot water. Since it was April, we did not use heating nor air conditioning, we just opened the window which was overlooking a very narrow alley way but it was fine with us - not interested in views!! Breakfast was very Italian of course so only continental breakfast was available. Not a vast selection but was enough for us as it was always fresh and inviting. I would definately recommend this hotel due to its superb location ( only 2 minutes walk from St. Mark's Square ) and the great accommodation price. Having said that .... I would definately visit again too :)

It was a very pleasant surprise to have a beautiful and clean room right in st mark square, for a very convenient price. The staff were also very kind and made us feel at home. 100 % recommended. This is real 4 star quality and yet very affordable.

The room was infested with bugs, the telephone had no outside line (so we could not contact Alitalia during the volcano crisis, the drinking glasses were filthy, nobody spoke English (or tried), we could not get new on the TV (to see what was going on in airports), and the bed was uncomfortable. Additionally, the courtyard was noisy (so was the street), and we had to heft our suitcases up flights of very steep stairs.

Because there was no air (neither air conditioning nor heating worked), we opened the window. Throughout the night there were bussing creatures, and in the morning my wife awoke with her face horribly swollen. So swollen and distended that some told her to go to the hospital. It remained swollen for nearly two weeks thereafter.

Also, we booked through Sleep in Italy. They were seriously unhelpful, said they had never received a complaint, and refused to reimburse their fee. As of today, they have refused to take responsibility for having urged us to stay at this Bed and Breakfast when we phoned them, and for the appallingly shoddy environment to which they directed us.

Once you get past the frustration that is your first 15 minutes in Venice (Ie: really hard to find things) this hotel is perfect. Quick Tip - Look for "trattoria bricola", it's the restaurant below the hotel, go in and ask for the hotel, they will take you down the side alley to the entrance, you will never find it by yourself, nor can you get in without a key.

The rooms are a good size for Europe, the bed is comfy and the rooms are quiet; someone smart put the bathrooms on the adjoining walls so you don't hear your neighbors. With the windows shut (the AC works great) the street is pretty quiet as well.

The bathrooms are amazing! Huge and tiled and brand new, who would have expected a jacuzzi tub, certainly not me. And the towels were not that scratchy and there is a hair dryer.

The location is perfect, you can get to the Rialto Bridge in 5 minutes and San Marco Piazza in 5 minutes as well.

The breakfast in the morning is great, fresh bakery, meats, cheeses, cereal, juice and of course cappucino.

I went on vacation with my boyfriend and I would stay here again and refer anyone who would ever go to Venice here in a second.

We parked car in Tronchetto (giant garage outside of Venice) and took ferry to Venice. Don’t buy ticket for ferry inside garage. They sold us tickets on wrong ferry and we can’t return those tickets. No refund period.
Hotel located next to San Marco. Room was cozy, but very comfortable. Nice staff. We love it very much.

La Bricola is a little hard to find the first time but what a location. It is 100m or less from St Marco's Square and right in the hub of the pedestrian/food district of Venice. It is also very close to the water ferry terminal (St Marco) as well as the ferry direct to the airport. The hotel is brand new and the quality of the rooms, bathrooms and furniture were excellent. The rooms were small but very well appointed, even with a flat screen TV. A/C was in perfect working order.

Breakfast was excellent offering croissants, bread, beautiful ham, procuitto and cheese, yoghurt, cereal, juice and proper Cappucino/Latte/American/Expresso coffee.

The reception was barely manned however they have a restaurant underneath at ground level. So the help buzzer went through to them as they forgot to mention the swipe access and to take it with you (as you get a key too). It is automated security with swipe card access and the hotel is small. There is little English so a late check out was difficult to organise but managed in the end.

Overall we were very impressed and paid 80 euro a night.

Excellent location, about 300 yards from San Marco yet in a quiet courtyard. Surprisingly clean and modern for what is essentially a 'bed and breakfast' rather than a hotel. Obviously it doesnt have all the features of hotel but then we have never found need for reception or room service in the past so didnt miss it one bit. We stayed in the 'junior suite' which was lovely, even had the luxury of a massive jacuzzi. Good continental breakfast served in newly refurbed dining room. Didnt use the restaurant so can't comment.
