Description: La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, youll feel as if youve entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

“Evening wedding dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

I was fortunate enough to be invited to dear friend's wedding on 1st October. The restaurant was perfect for the group of 8 people. It wasn't possible to eat in the picturesque courtyard due to the weather being chilly, but this did not deter from our enjoyment in any way. In fact the inside restaurant is perfect and intimate, like the inside of a galleon ship.
I cannot say enough about the service and quality of food. We chose their 'degustazione' tasting menu and every dish was perfect, both to look at and taste. Lobster bisque, fresh salmon, John Dory 'Carnival style' and the desert was amazing, especially the creme brulee and peanut ice-cream.
To top off an amazing meal, once the staff new the bride-groom was a 'chef', they paid special attention to explaining types of pasta and gave the groom a gift of special bigoli pasta and a poster showing different types of pasta. The staff were attentive and couldnt do enough for us!

“If you only eat at one restaurant in Venice, go here!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

For anyone who even remotely relies on Tripadvisor for a recommendation or confirmation of the quality and service of an establishment, I implore you to read this. If you only eat at one restaurant while visiting Venice, make it La Caravella in the St. Marks area of the city. Not only will you have a spectacular dining experience, you will leave the restaurant believing in the goodness of people and the wonderful symbiotic relationship of great food, wine and service. If, however, you're anything like me, you might want to know the degree of reliability of this contributor. With as much humility as this comment will allow, I've been extremely fortunate to have travelled extensively, and in addition to having planned many vacations around the restaurants of a particular area, I've also been a long-time member and past society chair of a US chapter of the International Wine and Food Society. To the extent this carries any weight (and I would certainly understand if it did not) I urge you to dine at this restaurant. La Caravella, and it's staff headed by their manager Nicola Celegato hit the mark on every single aspect of a dining experience. From the enthusiastic reception on arrival, to the ambience of the restaurant, to the recommendations of Mr. Celegato and his sommelier, to the attentiveness and friendliness of every staff member who dealt with us, and most of all to the exceptional meal. If you're lucky enough to go in the fall, ask if their Porcini mushroom menu is available. You can either order the entire menu, or select any item to compliment their regular menu. Thank you La Caravella for making our last night in Venice truly memorable.

“Unexpectedly good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

I went to this restaurant due to last minute change of plans and wasn't expecting much.
But we all really did enjoy it. Food was perfectly cooked and extremely fresh.
Personally i had a fish tartare starter and then a tagliata, both were very well prepared and tasty.
As for the rest of the table everyone enjoyed their dishes, some had fish and others had meat too.
Service is good, prompt and polite.

“Special birthday dinner in a beautiful setting!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

This is a little late but no less enthusiastic ... We finally visit Venezia in the summer and I enjoyed a most special birthday dinner at La Caravella. The beautiful, quiet setting in Il Cortile...the delicious Venetian food and local wines (I thoroughly enjoyed the special 50th anniversary King course of specialties from the lagoon!) and the attentive and most gracious service, made for a most memorable birthday in a beautiful setting. A perfect place for a special occasion! Grazie Mille! a presto!
