Dinner at Da Fiore was to be the special end to a lovely short break in Italy. I booked weeks in advance. We were going to be late as we got lost in the narrow Venetian alleys and so we phoned ahead and were delighted to know they would hold the table for us. Sadly that was the last positive. We were squeezed around a tiny table where one of our group of four was constantly pushed and nudged as everyone including the waiters went by. After ordering wine the amuse bouche arrived. They were tasty but I couldn't believe it when the waiter started to remove the plates before I had finished - this was supposed Michelin star service. Would have been insulted in a cafe if the waiters did this. Then the wonderful food which was small on quantity and taste. It was bland !!! The sommelier forgot about us and when we hadn't accepted a second bottle of white the waiter assumed we were not good customers - he seemed oblivious to the fact we had ordered red for the main course. Eventually while eating our main course the sommelier rushed to rectify his tardiness. At this stage we had lost heart. It was a huge disappointment. We have eaten in quite a few Michelin starred restaurants and I cannot understand why this restaurant merits this award !
