Description: The art of cooking fish in true Venetian tradition, a welcoming atmosphere and timeless style makes La Furatola a favorite restaurant by Venetians. The word Furatola derives from places that no longer exist. The way author Giovanni Battista Gallicciolli recounted Calle Lunga San Barnaba in his memoirs of Venice, it use to be a popular area and the very walls of this restaurant belonged to a shop that sold food to common folk. La Furatola today is a meeting point for flavors and traditions, and a place to feel the intensity of Venetian flavors in a calm and relaxed atmosphere far from the images of a city for tourists. The main customers of this restaurant are curious travelers in search of the highest quality and Venetians who come knowing the level of skill by the chef in terms of the preparation of the dishes, especially fish, prepared only as it should be according to the traditional original recipes accompanied by carefully selected wines. The perfection of the dishes hides the secret ingredient: every morning the chef, Alberto, devotes time and particular attention in choosing the freshest fish from the Rialto market. His close relationships of years with the best fishmongers assures top quality. For Alberto the art of cooking is his passion, and it shows in his masterpieces. Among them all, the raw fish appetizer stands out as it is created with meticulous care, an array of Croatian shrimp, sea bass and sea bream from Olbia, Sicilian prawns, and oysters from Great Britain. To find the perfect balance between the food and wine, it is just as important to get advice on the selection most suitable to enhance the taste, making a lunch at La Furatola an unforgettable experience.

“Excellent fixed price menu...but must pay cash”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012

Wonderful restaurant with many seafood specialties. They offered a very reasonable 30Euro fixed price menu when we were there. Our menu that night was started with an antipasto option of a plate of boiled or marinated sea creature offerings (both very tasty but marinated was especially delicious), followed by a pasta dish with asparagus and shrimp, and then followed by the last dish of grilled sea bass with roasted vegetables.

We enjoyed this wonderful meal by ordering with it the regional prosecco and followed up with a plate of small tastings of their dessert choices.

However, beware, they did not accept credit cards, only cash. Don't know if that was for the whole menu or just the fixed price menu. Luckily, we had cash on us.

“Delicious sea food - Great service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2011

Walked passed and fresh fish on ice caught our eye in the window. First meal upon Venice arrival; great (fritto misto) mixed fried sea food -- and assorted grilled/steamed smoky veggies. Light and delicate. Service was perfect. Very satisfied. About $50 for 2 with wine.

“Consistently great fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

We have eaten here on all our recent visits to Venice. La Furatola has consistently high standards for fairly simple fish dishes. The grilled fish choice depends on market availability. Do not be put off by the price per 100g on the menu: they don't rip you off. When the dish arrives, the fish is expertly filleted in front of you. Also good are the marinated fish antipasto and the spaghetti with clams. SImple but delicious.
You are generally offered the house wine which is fine and reasonably priced.
One tip: like many restaurants in Italy now, they don't accept credit cards. There is an ATM just down the alley if you get stuck.
