“Lovely little place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013 via mobile

Apparently you have to make a reservation well in advance for this place as they only have a couple tables. However, it is well worth the planning. The service is attentive, gives recommendations. The razor clams were beautiful just as the grilled fish. A highly recommended place.

“FOOD POISONING SPOILED THE EXPERIENCE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Although our visit to this highly rated restaurant was 6 months ago - I have delayed making this review - However, after talking with the other 3 people who dined with me that evening we felt that others should be advised of the experience we had there.

Our reservation was for the 9:30 PM sitting and we were seated at 9:45 in the small dining room that seats roughly 38 people. Decals and stickers on the outside window showed the 4 - 5 star rating for the restaurant from many sources.

The service was excellent and the four of us shared several appetizers all of which were mainly seafood. Along with several bottles of wine we then had the main courses - two of Sea Bass and two with Flounder. The meal was very good and tasted excellent on the way down.

Unfortunately, at 6 AM the next morning all four of us had food poisoning - which knocked us out for roughly two days - although we did manage to drag ourselves around Venice - as we had no other choice.

I am guessing that probably others that night had the same sad experience - which just proves that food poisoning can be found even at the top restaurants in town.

“Simple and sophisticated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

Did you know that Inspector Brunetti eats here? We had forgotten although we have read all the Donna Leon mysteries. More importantly, we had a memorable meal there. Are you in a hurry?
Forget this place. Are you with good friends and like to chat between course? And do you want as good seafood as can be found in Venice? Come here. Make a reservation. Small place with 7-9 tables. One seating at lunch. Maybe two at dinner. My wife and I are foodies. I have been to Venice many, many times but have never eaten as well as we did here. They have a website BTW.

We had excellent polpetti, gnochetti in a cinnamon sauce, grilled sea bream and the best little monk fish this side of fisherman's heaven. O Dio it was good. With lots of wine our bill was only about $60. per person. With quality like this, we would pay more. I envy the Venetians who can visit once a week. The other eaters were Italians except for a decadent old British ex-pat next to us. A few words of Italian are a big help.

“Simple and Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend and now I am passing along the recommendation. It was our favorite dining experience in Venice this trip. Tiny little space so reservations are a must - 2 seatings (7 and 9:30). The menu is focused on seafood and it is done simply but superbly. Highly recommend the grilled razor clams, the baby gnocchi with calamari (and a hint of cinnamon), the spaghetti with the tiniest little clams you've ever seen, and whatever fish of the day that the owner (Luca) recommends!

“Excellent food (and value )”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Trying to find fine dining that wasn't way overpriced and over run by tourists is a challenge in Venice. Alle Testiere founder Luca Dinta has an answer to that challenge based on our experience. Relatively tiny, Saturday dinner was served in 2 seatings and we were able to enjoy the late, 930 pm, seating. Service, food and fun all got A's. The personal touch was well received and dawdling after dinner to chat with the owner and staff is ok (and maybe encourage). Really good and reasonably priced wine selection as well. Worth the walk through that maze that is Venice.
