“bad smells in venice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

We are experienced world travelers. Our first impression was being met with a strong offensive odor which was reminicent of cat urine. It was very difficult to get beyond this odor. The rooms were clean and breakfast was quite unusual, box cookies, some toast and yogurt. The directions were of no help. Take a GPS. I would not recommend staying here.

I was in Venice for one night and I had the most comfortable stay at Allan and Laura's apartment. The apartment is located very near the water bus station and near a shopping street. There are restaurants and a supermarket located nearby. It was nice and quiet at night and I had a good sleep. I was served with a delicious breakfast the next morning. Allan was a very helpful and approachable host. I would definitely stay there once again when I return to Venice!

B&B San Paolo is in a residential area - quiet most of the time but can be a bit noisy with people using the supermarket just round the corner. Only 2 minutes walk to shops and restaurants and very easy access to Grand Canal. Very easy to find using the directions on their website (I came from the airport and got the airport vaporetto to Fondamenta Nova) although I would say look out for the Coop supermarket rather than the cinema as the entrance to the cinema is round the corner and I walked straight past! I found it was also within easy walking distance of the St Lucia train station too, although with suitcases I chose to use the vaporetto from the Ca'D'Oro stop.
I stayed in the single room which was more than big enough to have held 2 beds and still have plenty of room! It was basic but clean and worth the cost (I paid €42 a night) considering its location in the heart of Venice!
The shared bathroom wasn't that much of an issue as it was kept clean (although I was a bit annoyed at having to wait 30 minutes to use the loo when someone was taking a shower at 3:30am!... Inconsiderate guest rather than a fault of the B&B though). The only things that I found disappointing were the single room doesn't have a mirror or a bedside lamp (August 2012). There is no air con either but there was a moveable fan in the room.
All in all, I found the B&B to be a good basic standard in a great location with easy access to shops, restaurants and vaporetto stops. I would stay there again.
My top tip - take the vaporetto to Burano and Murano for a couple of hours - beautiful and tranquil!

Venice is my third stop after Paris and Milan. Well I had a fairly gd experience with the hotels/hostels in Paris and Milan, but they were just clean, not much character. But I'm glad I was made up for that in Venice!

First location, it's a little off from the central and grand canal but again considering the size of Venice, nothing is too far. It's actually located more on the inside of Venice, away from all the hustle and bustle and tourist activities, so I Actuslly think it's a good feel and you really get to mingle w the locals.

Room is clean. It's really a b n b as in the owners stay there too, so the decor is very homey, very old Venetian feel. Its not grand, posh but it has a home feel to it.

The hosts-Allan was lovely! Patient and helpful! I arrived late and he waited for me.

Breakfast was simply, tea and cookies and bread in your room, but I like the simplicity of it.

For the price, it's worth it and I'll definitely recommend this!

Very well placed B&B just north of the Canal Grande. The rooms were OK, but the cleaning could be better. The bathroom was basic and also here the cleaning could be better. In summer the rooms are quite warm, but you can easily leave the windows open because it is located in a very quiet street.

Had not read the previous reviewers experience until now but could not have been any different than our experience with Allen and his wife! The room was perfect, great view, and good breakfast. Location cannot be bet for the value. Also was allowed to leave our bags until 1500 the day of check out. Will definitely return if we are in Venice once again!
