“A little gem in the heart of Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

Casa Petrarca was recommended by friends and right from the first "Buongiorno" greeting Valentina's warmth shone through. Her enthusiasm and efficiency made our first experience in Venice a truly unforgettable one. The charming hotel, on the first floor, is perfectly located at the end of an alley, 5 mins from San Marco Square and Rialto Bridge - Valentina's map (sent via e-mail) of how to get there was very clear for which we were very grateful. On landing at San Marco by Alilaguna water bus (all helpful details provided by Valentina) - an hour's trip from the airport - we were able to find our way to Casa Petrarca very easily. One tip - don't take big luggage - too many steps up and down - we packed 5 days clothing into a small backpack and that was ideal. In the heat of summer you don't need much - but leave space for shopping! We had a twin share with bathroom - excellent. Valentina's cheerful greeting every morning made us feel very much at home and nothing was too much trouble - right down to breakfast in the room before an early exit. Thank you to Stefano, too. I would heartily recommend this little hotel - very affordable, spotless - a little gem!

Room Tip: Our room was very quiet at the end of the street - only the noise of the gondolieri singing as they...

We spent 2 short nights in Venice but it was enough to be captivated by the mystique of it all. Casa Petrarca is centrally located within quick walking distance to many attractions including Piazza San Marco. Once we parked a short ferry ride dropped us at the Rialto Bridge and within 5 minutes walk we arrived to meet Valentina, our hostess.

Valentina is the model of the person you want as your hostess and neighbour next door. She is intelligent, helpful and a great, warm spirit. Casa Petrarca would definitely be in the cards when we return someday to Venezia.

Our first trip to Venice! Stephano and Valentina, the proprietors of Casa Petrarca, could not have been more friendly and accomodating. What a great location to set out and explore Venice from, very centrally located between the Rialto Bridge and St. Marks square. We arrived late on Wed and Valentina had gave us directions on where to find access to the hotel & our room. Loved that the hotel was off on a side street and one of the smaller canals, made it very quiet & charming. Room was petite, but quite functional; a wonderfully comfortable bed, clean functional ensuite bathroom, grateful for the air conditioning as it was quite warm everywhere but in our room, ahhhh!. Breakfast was so nice; cute breakfast room where they ask your preference for coffe or tea and then serve you; fruit filled Croissants, eggs, cheese, toast all very nice and a great way to get started on your days explorations adventures. Your hosts are eager to accomodate your requests, and answer questions. Would highly reccommend and we plan to return

Room Tip: Let Stephano and Valentina know your requirements and they will go out of their way to make sure you...

This was our first trip to Venice and we booked this Hotel several months out. We had a three night pre-cruise stay in Venice and were immediately attracted to Casa Petrarca because of the affordability. Turned out to be a great find! Located within 5 minutes to San Marcos and maybe 7 minutes tops to the Rialto Bridge. Stephano and Valentina, the owners, could not be more friendly and accomodating. They booked our tours, water taxi to the ship, and provided us with the information needed to find them for a late arrival. (Valentina even walked us to the hotel where we caught the taxi to make sure it went smoothly). We were provided a wonderful Continental Breakfast each morning. We booked a room ensuite which was clean and perfect for our short stay. Not a large room, but hey, this hotel was built in the 14thy century. Part of the charm. Stephano and Valentina and the Casa Petrarca enriched my magical visit to Venice. I cannot wait to return, and would stay with them in a heart beat. Thanks so much!!!!!

Room Tip: Personal choice for us would be for an ensuite room.

We booked this hotel just 3days before our travel and as a last resort as most of the hotels were either fully booked or way too expensive for our 2 day stay. As such we were pleasantly surprised to find this hotel so good for a very affordable price. We booked a room with sharing bathroom and were concerned about the cleanliness aspect but again were surprised to find it spotlessley clean. Our room was small but adequate. Our host Valentina was simply superb and very accomodating with our every request. Add to this was the location which was very convenient as it was close to all the important attractions. We couldnt have asked for more n had a memorable 2 days. Will definitely visit CASA PETRARCA again. Lastly a big Thank you Valentina!!! You are too good!

We have been to Venice every year at least once for the last 16 years, and therefore have stayed in many different hotels with different star ratings. This one is classed as a 1 star, but I have stayed in 3 stars, and even 4 in Venice that were no where near as good as this one! The owners were very friendly and helpful, and not at all aloof as some Venetians are! The breakfast room, although very small, had a nice feel to it, niceley decorated and a good view of the canal from the windows at the front. Breakfast was the usual Italian fare of toast, jam, flakes, juice and tea or coffee, but also fresh croissants and yogurts. the rooms are very clean and vary in size but are nicely decorated. Our room had a nice canal view. The hotel is on the first floor, but does have a lift. There are lots of people on the bridge outside the hotel windows which to me is fine as this is Venice and it's a very touristy and busy place, so don't expect peace and quiet. I would highly recommend this hotel for location alone, it's a winner.

Nice place to stay in Venice. Our room was very small but adequate (the bedroom is not much bigger than the double bed) with a separate toilet & shower. Best thing is that this hotel is very central & most places are within easy walking distance (only downside with being so central is that it was a bit noisy at night time - but not too bad).
Valentina (the host) is very helpful & friendly. Breakfast was great & the place was very clean. I would stay there again next time I'm in Venice.
