The principal criterion upon which the choice of this hotel was based was its location, being centrally located in the San Marco district, but not too close to St Mark’s itself. Having pre-booked the Alilaguna line from the airport, we disembarked at St Mark’s and, thanks to previous tripadvisor reviews, we were able to make our way easily enough to the hotel. Turning right along Calle Vallaresso one turns left at the end of the street, passing through Calle Larga XXII Marzo, until one arrives at Campo Santo Maurizio. The laneway leading to the hotel, Calle Del Dose Da Ponte, is at the South Western corner of the square.
The rather unprepossessing exterior belies an interior which is quite attractive and clean. However, negotiating the stepped bridges while being burdened with luggage can be tiring and, on arrival, first impressions can be lasting. The receptionist on duty was efficient rather than particularly welcoming and warm. The room was quite adequate, the bed extremely comfortable and the area is perfectly quiet. The breakfast was also rather good. On our final evening we discovered that the shower gel and soap had not been replaced. On contacting reception, it must be admitted that they were attentive and provided a superfluity of same.
We discovered a quite attractive square close by, Campo Santo Stephano and it became our preferred spot in which to relax and eat out.
