“Luxury Hotel, Budget Price (If you book early!)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I think all of the other reviews on here speak for the hotel as well as I could. One thing I'd add is that by booking 4-6 months in advance you can get some really good prices.

I'd also recommend a trip to Alfredo's pasta bar for lunch. Excellent pasta, friendly atmosphere and a free glass of red wine.

The hotel is a few minutes from the Rialto bridge, but in a side road off the main tourist thoroughfare so there isn't a mob constantly passing the window. The room we stayed in was a reasonable size, well appointed with a comfortable bed and a great shower. The location is great - pretty much in centre of Venice and close to the vaporetto stop, and the staff were very friendly with good English and a helpful attitude. We asked for restaurant recommendations on two evenings and both were excellent choices within a short walk of the hotel. We would certainly come back to this hotel on a return trip, hopefully with less rain next time!

One minute from the Rialto bridge, this hotel is the ideal location for your Venice holiday. This is a small, friendly yet highly professionally-run hotel a few metres from the Grand Canal. Staff are helpful and will advise on days out, transport, and restaurants. We had room 402 which was small-ish but comfortable and cosy. The room was maintained superbly - linen and towels were changed daily and the bedroom and bathroom were cleaned to a very high standard. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast is very good - the room is pleasant, the service formal but thoughtful and the food good. This hotel is not a luxury or highly indulgent experience, but represents extremely good value for money and I recommend it unhestitatingly.

We stayed at the A La Commedia for 5 nights over Easter, it couldn't be in a better position for all the main attractions, the staff are very courteous and helpful, the room was lovely comfortable and clean, breakfast was fair as continental breakfasts go, all in all would stay there again with no problem..

Whilst this wasn't our first time in Venice it was our first stay at Hotel A La Commedia. Our previous stay was also in a four star hotel, however the difference between the two was chalk and cheese. The hotel itself is well appointed and the rooms certainly spacious with quality furnishing and fitments.
However where the hotel scores above its rivals is the friendliness, knowledge and unwavering commitment of the staff to help and assist. No request appeared too much trouble, from advice we actually found restaurants off the beaten track that served good quality, non tourist food.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Venice is a wonderful city which we will return to and I strongly suspect we'll also be returning to this lovely hotel. Incidentally Emmanulle at the bar makes the most delicious hot chocolate!

This was our second stay at A la Commedia--we were there two years ago--and it was even better than the first time. It is an incredible value for Venice. It is about a five-minute walk to the Rialto, and only a minute or two longer to San Marco. Even so, it is easy to escape the most crowded areas of the city and just enjoy walking the calli. The hotel itself is first-rate. The rooms are well-furnished, in perfect condition, and of a good size, but it is the staff makes the difference. Those who work at Reception are friendly and helpful in every possible circumstance. We have never had better room-cleaning service at any hotel. Oh, and the breakfasts, and those who serve it, were great.
