“Wow !! Super friendly & relaxing plus perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Date of stay : 11th Dec to Dec 13th. Just returned after a 2 night stay for a late anniversary and christmas present trip with hubby. Neither of us have been to Venice before and boy were we pleased with our hotel choice. Felt like this should be 5 star to be honest. If , I could give more than 5 stars on here then I would !! This hotel was simply PERFECT......

We paid for a return transfer at the airport for 54 euro's for us both by water bus. We got off at the Rialto bridge, and within a few minutes we found the hotel. Location is prefect. The hotel is superb. On arrival, we were thrilled to see the reception area, beaufiful decorated with christmas decorations . Check in is fast and smooth and we felt very welcomed, we were taken to our room 106, on first floor, and bags delivered shortly afterwards..Lovely end of the corridor room. Standard room with double bed, tv, cd/clock player. Hotel bar (with charges if used). Clean and extremely comfortable. With adjustable heating system. Bathroom is a lovely size, and had compliementry bathroom smellies. You can listen to the tv whilst in the bathroom as there is a speaker in the ceiling. Maid service was top service. Making up room in morning and turning down in the evening. With a couple of chocolates and a card with next day's weather forecast, which is a fab idea and the chocolates were a lovely touch too :)

Breakfast was on first floor. Lovely and relaxing atmosphere. Contiental breakfast with cereals, pastries, fruit and yogurts. Also scambles egg and bacon. Fruit juices, tea and coffee. Perfect start to the day ahead. Venice is beautiful. And the hotel can arrange a Gondola trip and if 4 or more from hotel book is about 30 euro's each. We got our own Gondola trip though as we were offered same price for us both without others. What a lovely experience that was. And, I'd say a must do when in Venice. Tip : wear comfty shoes. This will be a walking trip away and it's very easy to get lost, we did lots of times but that was the fun of it. We saw parts we wouldn't of see else. And lots of little bridges to cross over too and then there's the Famous Rialto Bridge with shops on. The view from the top of the bridge was lovely.

The hotel also arranged for us to go over to Murano, to see the glass blowers in action and to see all their beautiful items for sale. Its expensive inside so you've been warned. We then got a boat back to Venice again.

We found this time of year to visit was perfect for us, there are visitors here, but I reckon its very busy during the summer months. I found this particulary relaxing and I suffer from anixety attacks, everything felt laid back and not in your face, if you know what I mean.

Now, back home Im missing Venice and the hotel A La Commedia.

I would differently recommend this hotel, in fact we did to a couple who were on the same boat back to the airport. If you looking for superb accommadtion, relaxing and comfty and in a great location, then this is the hotel for you !

We will differently like to go back to Venice and this hotel will be the one we book again, no doubt about it ..

My only disappointing thing was I fell in love with the Gold Teddie Candle's on their Christmas displays and really wanted to buy one for a lovely reminder of our stay in this hotel. So, if the manager ever wants to sell me one, Please get in touch because I'd love one please :) My picture is just not the same, lol xx

Thankyou to the A La Commedia for a lovely stay and for 100% lovely warm welcome, we throughly had a lovely short trip and saty with you x

This hotel was our first stop on a 10 day trip in Italy. The hotel is in a great location to see and tour Venice. It is also close to the Rialto stop from the Airport. We did not have to travel down the alleys or over bridges with our bags. Accordingly we were able to catch the public boat back to the airport with ease. The hotel is beautiful, rooms may appear to be small in size if you are accustomed to US hotel rooms, but our room had ample space. The bathroom was beautiful. The room and hotel were clean. The continental breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly, helpful, endured my basic italian! and answered questions that had nothing to do with the accomodations. I would reccomend and stay there again if we travel to Venice

A La Commedia deserve our 5 star ranking because of the excellent location, within walking distance from Rialto Bridge. One thing about Venice is you have to walk after you jump from your boat. So you need a good location hotel so you wont have trouble with your luggage. From airport dont take water taxi, very expensive. So, A La Commedia is your answer. The room & toilet was clean, and the cleaner left us 2 chocolates bar on our bed after she cleaned our room. My wife & I had a great vacation here. I highly reccomend this hotel.

The Hotel A La Commedia is an excellent base in Venice. It has a great location a couple of minutes from the Rialto Bridge and maybe a quarter hour from San Marco (if you don't get lost, and there's a strong possibility you will! But then that's half the fun of Venice).

The hotel is beautifully decorated, comfortable and welcoming. The staff were both friendly and efficient and spoke excellent English. If we had a problem they sorted it out straight away. There's a little bar in the lobby which is great for an afternoon coffee or a nightcap--we never made it up to the roof terrace because it was so cold and rainy, but maybe that's something to do next time! We ate a self-served Continental breakfast which was plentiful (cooked breakfasts are also available, and for a small charge you can eat in your room). The morning staff were friendly and helpful and the coffee they served was delicious!

Our room was larger than expected and with a little balcony overlooking a small piazza (I don't believe there's such a thing as a bad view in Venice). Despite only booking a standard room we had a little seating area as well as a bedroom. The beds were comfortable, the room had individual climate controls and with the curtains shut there was little noise from the street. My only quibble is that there was no kettle or coffee maker, but I knew that in advance and took my own travel kettle as I need some coffee before I face the day--but as I said, the coffee served at breakfast was very nice and came in a pot big enough for two servings.

The staff also gave us a map which was more detailed than the one in our guidebooks, something you need when navigating the confusing tangle of Venice's tiny streets. There's no restaurant on site (apart from the breakfast room and light snacks at the bar) but you don't have to go far in any direction to find a cosy and inexpensive trattoria, cafe or pizzeria (although the one directly opposite the hotel was very expensive and quite disappointing--go further afield, you won't have to go far!).

One piece of advice is to take some really comfortable shoes as you'll do a lot of walking in Venice. Most of the famous sights, like the Rialto bridge and market, Pizza San Marco with the Doge's palace, the Basilica, the Campanile etc are not far away on foot. But beware! We visited in early December when the tides were very high and several canal-side streets had flooded, as had Piazza San Marco, which was easily six inches underwater in places. The Venetians are entirely used to this and go about their daily business with the help of raised walkways in the street and wellington boots. I really advise taking something waterproof to wear on your feet as shuffling along on those narrow raised walkways can be a tiresome business when everyone keeps stopping to take pictures every few seconds!

We took a shared vaporetto from the airport which was about €50/person return. The waterbus is cheaper but much slower, and of course you can't beat the glamour of racing across the lagoon in a speedboat! The hotel staff organised a shared gondola ride most afternoons (weather dependant) which was €30/person--compared to a lot of rides, that was good value and we really enjoyed it. I really recommend a water trip of some kind, even if it's just on the waterbus, because Venice looks totally different from the water.

Right, that's about it--suffice to say, I was very happy with this choice of hotel, and thoroughly recommend it!

This hotel has to be one of the better hotels we have stayed during our Europe trip. The customer care was brilliant. They couldn't do enough for you. The room was very clean. This hotel is very central to everything. Breakfast was great. Bathroom was big enough. Overall this was superb holiday and hotel. Would recommend to anyone.

Wonderful location between San Marco and Rialto vaporetto stops. Can easily walk to all of the major attractions. Lovely, spacious, quiet, clean, well maintained rooms. Excellent breakfast. Staff... concierges, and Emanuel... couldn't be more helpful and friendly. We look forward to returning.
