“The perfect location for a city break in Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

1 minute's walk from the Rialto Bridge and 5 minutes to San Mark's Square, makes this the perfect place to stay for siteseeing. We travelled from the airport by bus then vaporetto to the Rialto stop then back to the airport directly which meant less hassle with the luggage.Even with the map we struggled to find the Guest House but it is easy to get lost in Venice! Our reception [ at the sister Inn] was welcoming and staff were helpful throughout our stay. Our room was average size, very clean, recently refurbished, with an ensuite shower/wc.fridge and safe.Although we couldn't get the safe to work even after the manager had check it for us.We took our own travel kettle which was useful. On 2 mornings we booked Italian breakfast at the Inn.However at 5 euros each for 1 croissant and a drink I felt this was expensive.Especially as a full breakfast was on offer for 7 euros just over the bridge at the Rialto market.Outside the front door is agood bakery cafe, handy for snacks. There are loads of bars, restaurants and shops nearby.I would return here for convenience and value for money.

Despite informing staff that it was our honeymoon and additionally being prepared to pay extra money for a nice room we were placed in a shoe box. It was disappointing that hotel staff did not make any attempt to warn us about the room size until we arrived. Despite this, the hotel was in a great location. We would be very ambivalent about staying there again.

We had a lovely stay at the San Lio Tourist House. We couldn't have wished for a nicer room which was spacious and bright with a lovely ensuite. The location of the tourist house is excellent for all the big attractions such as St Marks square, the grande canale and the Rialto bridge. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this hotel and when I return to Venice I will choose the San Lio Tourist house as my accommodation. We arrived at 2am and could not find the hotel as there was nobody about to ask for directions. Make sure you know where your going before you travel.

Although not the most luxurious of places it gave us a perfect location from which to explore the city of Venice. We were spending most of our time getting to know venice by day and by night and had planned to spend as little time as possible in our room and San Lio being 2 minutes from the Rialto and 5 minutes from St Marks allowed us to do this.

Found the hotel very easily using the map that they supply and the standard double room was clean, quiet and comfortable with an ok sized en-suite that had a warm powerful shower. There are plenty of places from which to get food drinks etc within 1 minutes walk of the hotel and so not having breakfast at the hotel was not an issue.

All in all we were happy with San Lio and happy with the price we paid.

I would have given the San Lio a 5-star review had it not been for one major flaw in our room: every time we flushed the loo (with the lid CLOSED, mind you) it would leak\splash a little water onto the seat and onto the floor somehow. It seemed to be a design flaw somehow with the lid not properly closing shut or something. It wasn't a real leak, so to speak, so we didn't report it, but it wasn't very pleasant to have toilet water all over the seat and to accidently step into splashes of it.

Apart from this, the room was very nice (I think we stayed in the room that's actually featured as the first photo of house, shown above as I'm writing this.) I'd say it was quite recently renovated, and to a suprisingly high standard given how central the San Lio is and how affordable it is compared to other Venice hotels. The bathroom was fairly small without much room to set toiletries, etc. but the room itself was fairly spacious, and the window opened a little for fresh air. It was a little noisy over one night of the weekend that we stayed, with someone drunk shouting and singing around 2am, but on the other nights it quieted down fairly early and then we woke to the hum and business of the morning as people made their way to work. It IS a very central location, so of course it's going to be louder than a more residential area of the city, but as long as you can put up with a bit of noise it should be fine. Venice doesn't have much nightlife, as someone else pointed out, which definitely helps.

It wasn't really a problem, but if you're sensitive to these sorts of things, the walls are fairly thin separating the rooms. We could hear the amorous adventures of our neighbors quite loud and clearly.

And yes, you do have to go to another hotel (close by) to get your keys and check in, but as long as you have the map printed out it's no problem.

Overall, we were pleased with the San Lio. I only hope they'll send someone up to take a look at that toilet.

Our air con wasn't working the first night so for the remaining 2 nights of our stay we were upgraded to an extremely large air conditioned room in Ca Braggadin free of charge. Just a little concerned about what would have happened if another room wasn't available. Fortunately worked out and very happy.

Stayed 2 nights. Room was clean. Bit noisy till about midnight. Shower very, very, very small. AC broken (seems like it never worked and it's not going to be fixed at all - just there to advertise the room). The video on you tube that walks you through the street to get to San Lio helped a lot. For Venice it is a nice place to stay.
