This was perhaps the most expensive hotel on our vacation, but Venice is an expensive city so we were prepared to spend more here. The hotel was very nice and the staff friendly and helpful. We arrived via overnight train and the hotel allowed us to store our bags for half a day until we could check in. They allowed us to check in an hour early (1 instead of 2). Our room was on the first floor and it was impressive. The room and bathroom were both very large. We had a queen size bed (2 twins pushed together). The room also had air conditioning that we could control, which was a godsend because it was so hot and humid in Venice.
We decided to stay near the train station and away from the main tourist spots. We printed google map directions and a map that led us from the train station and then started seeing signs that pointed the way to the hotel. We could see how it would be difficult to find with or without a map. The area was quiet and we found it easy to walk to all of the sites we wanted to see. We also highly recommend getting a good map of the city from a street vendor. Having a map that has most if not all of the names of the small streets and canals can be a lifesaver, which we found out the hard way during our first few hours in the city before breaking down and buying one for 3 euros. The 3 euro map was good, but if there was an even more detailed one for a few more euros we would gladly have gotten that one instead.
Our room had a mini fridge. The prices for drinks were very reasonable and in some cases less expensive than buying it on the street.
Breakfast was good. There was plenty to eat and we were able to sit on a beautiful terrace. Choice of coffee was included.
Our shower/bathtub was awkward to use and leaked a little onto the bathroom floor, but we were able to wipe it up with towels. The sheets on our bed weren't great, but they didn't hinder our sleep. It was just strange since everything else was so nice. Also, the Internet costs 2 euros per hour. We had to pay for Internet access in some other places, but again this felt strange since everything was nice and the room was fairly pricey.
