“just perfect!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Charming little inn in the center of Venice, in the area of Rialto; yet far away from the crowd of tourists. My single room was small yet comfortable; but on the second night of my stay, the staff moved me to a large double room with a very comfortable bathroom at no extra cost, due to "a leak problem in the first" that I never noticed. Exquisitely decorated in venetian style, the inn only has 6 rooms and a small breakfast area, which is just perfect. Wi-Fi is only available in the lounge area upstairs and in the rooms around it. There is no staff after 8pm, so they give you an access code to open the front door. Considering that Venice is a very expensive city to stay in, I found the price and accomodations quite satisfactory. I would definetly stay here again.

We spent 3 nights at this beautiful tiny hotel in July and really enjoyed it. It is incredibly handy for the Rialto market and waterbus while at the same time very quiet. The rooms are very comfortable and well air conditioned (a joy after the hot streets of Venice!). True, there is no lift (the building is hundreds of years old) and the stairs are steep but you would be crazy to lug a big suitcase to venice anyway. The receptionist is not there all day but in our case he called us and gave us the code to enter and told us where to pick up our key so it was no big deal. It's clear that the rooms are recently rennovated and they a spotless

It is located within a short walking distance from the Rialto Market stop of the Line 1 route of the vaporetto. My routine morning ritual was to visit the market and get some fresh fruits for the day.

Though it is just a short walk to the bustling Rialto area, the hotel is located in a quiet street. Access of the main door is by password, which was given to you after check in.

I stayed in a single room for 3 nights. It has a double bed so could possibly do as a double but may be a little tight. However, the size and space is perfect for single. It has a no-door wardrobe which I think it is convenient as you really get to use the shelves more often.

The shower cubicle is spacious for European standard. The hot water and pressure was good. Towels were changed everyday. There is air-condition in the room, important for summer.

The breakfast is simple, croissant and a roll with drinks such as milk, orange juice and espresso or cappuccino.

The Filipino front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. It is a small hotel so very casual and cosy.

Rooms in Venice are expensive and I find this hotel offers great value.

It has good wifi too, partly because my room is just one floor from the reception.

We spent 1 night in this hotel during our trek through Italy. Typically when booking European hotels, I get a bit weary because they are usually in older, refurbished, dusty buildings and the bathroom and bed sizes can be questionalble. I usually don't make any issue since most of these hotels are what they are and. They can't renovate extensively, and have a few inherent cultural differences. It's all part of the experience. After all, if I wanted a Holiday inn, I would stay home.

That said, I was COMPLETELY SATISFIED with Alloggi al Mercante. We had booked online, and the site was easy to navigate and they responded t our email questions promtly - and in English. When we checked in, we were greeted in English by a friendly desk clerk. We got up to the room and it was exactly as pictured on the website. As a matter of fact, as we were settling in, the desk clerk came up to offer us an upgraded room.

Both rooms had the equivalent of a queen-sized (or larger) bed. Both bathrooms were extremely clean and well appointed. Many hotels in Eurpoe can have tiny waterclostes with phone booth sized showers. This hotel had a large shower - big enough for 2 - with a bench seat. Plenty of room inside and out to do what you needed to do without bruising a knee or an elbow. Shower and bed size is very important to us since my husband is over 6' 3".

Bothrooms were immaculate, rooms had working air conditioning and were decorated in old Venitian style with blown glass light fixtures. I have to be honest and say that given the age of the city and the building that the hotel is in, it was remarkably clean and there were no signs of dis-repair.

We slept in, so we did not sample the breakfast. Breakffast is served in the lobby. The lobby of the hotel is TINY, but seemed to be prepared to provide the usual coffe/tea/croissant type breakfast amenities.

The building itself is charming. But I don't think you find many of those in Venice anyway. You walk up to your room looking at the architecture and you can picture what the building would have been used for in it's day. The landing on each floor is spacious, plenty of room to get in and out of your room without bumping into anyone.

Value for the money was superb. We'd thought of spending more for a ritzy canal side hotel, but quickly realized that ALL of venice is canal side. And all of it is quiet since there is no vehicle traffic. The front door of the hotel is about 50 feet from the canal We were steps away from the Rialto Market, the Architectural Museam, the Water Taxi and the Vapereto. What more could you ask for?

STAY HERE!!

Room Tip: Book online - they have great deals.

My wife and I stayed in suite for 2 nights. The room had a loft bedroom and two baths. Nicely maintained and comfortable. The one person staff was very pleasent and helpful. Like many Ventian hotels there are no elevators.

we were very looking forward to staying in this hotel as we had booked the suite for one night and after spending the previous week camping we were really looking forward to a bed! However to say we were disappointed would be an understatement, the first thing we discovered in our room was that our bed sheet was all covered in blood!! This was not the most pleasant of sights and hardly the health conscious either! Secondly a mini - bar had been advertised on the website but all we got was an empty fridge and there also seemed to be a problem with the draining system. When you are paying a lot of money you expect to get what you are paying for!! Although the room itself was lovely and we did we did recieve a 20 euro discount it just simply wasn't good enough!

The hotel was only a short walk from the Rialto Bridge and the big fish and produce market. The hotel served a continental breakfast, but we opted to go to one of the many quaint cafes nearby. The hotel is relatively easy to find for Venice, just a short walk from the water taxi station and we felt very safe there. The rooms were very spacious for Italy's standards. We didn't have a waterview, but it didn't matter as we were always out. This isn't a full-service hotel, so don't expect room service or bellman.
