“Great Hotel in a Real Venetian Neighborhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

We stayed here for two nights Oct 12-13 and had a great time. We had a room in the main hotel and our family members stayed in the Annex, a short walk from the main building. Some of the reviews said they thought the activity on the waterfront was loud but we didn't have an issue with noise. The room and bathroom were on the small side but remember you are in Venice and are only in the room to sleep and change clothes. The breakfast is adequate and filling. The coffee is really good and made by Matteo himself.

Matteo is a very friendly gentleman and since he is a native Venetian he is able to direct you to where the "locals" eat and shop. We ate his friend, Tony's restaurant and it was unbelievable.

I look forward to returning to Venice and I would definitely stay with Matteo at his fine hotel. This hotel is in a great location to the Aliguana boat stop from the airport (2nd stop on the Blue Line), the Vaporetto stop is directly in front of hotel, which makes getting around the city and the getting to the train station very easy.

Just stayed here and had a lovely 3 days. Very friendly hotelier, really helpful advising where to eat and transport etc. Very comfy beds, some people have said its noisy but we were in a side room and were'nt disturbed. A couple of tips, venice can get a bit this time of year, its a bit wet and wild, check weather forcast and if its says rain, pack wellies! Will definately be back one day xxx

The location of this hotel is great - it looks like a little on the side, but the walk to Piazza St Marko is amazing...one get to go through so many little typical venetian lanes and bridges...And because it is not on the main toursit drag, the streets are not so crowded...you can actually see for yourself how the venetians live as it is mainly residential area. The other great advantage of the area is that there are a lot of hidden little reastaurant frequented mainly by locals - great food at reasonable prices. The hotel is in an old building but with great character (wooden beams in rooms and ventian furniture) and very well maintained. The room had a great view over the water and despite the fact that there is a vaporetto stop right in front it was not very noise - we slept like babies (maybe also from all the walking and admiring this amazing place). The breakfast was very good - could not fault it. Would not hasitate to recommend this hotel!

This is a lovely little hotel. The rooms are quite small but fully equipped, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Matteo, the owner is very friendly and has for a great sense of humour (and makes great coffee). Would highly recommend this place as it is away from the main hub so quiet and the view across to murano is lovely. We were in room 1 right by reception and thought we might get woken with comings and goings but was very quiet.

Stayed at Hotel Vecellio for 4 nights in September, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The hotel is, as others have said, in a perfect location for the water bus stop (the 2nd stop from the airport line Blu) about a 10-15 min walk to the main sights this was part of the fun for us getting lost!

We stayed in room 4, this was a beautiful room very Venetian, huge wooden beams, decent shower, air con, a tv (didn't even turn this on, who does in such a wonderful city!?) & the best bit the view!
The owner Matteo was a nice chap, very friendly. Breakfast was basic but the great coffee made up for it!

We are already talking about going back again soon!

If you are tired from "classic touristic way" of seeing and experiencing Venice, you are in the right place. Hotel "Vecellio" is a bit secluded from the touristic traffic (that could be very annoying) but near Vaporeto stops that allows you to be in center of Venice for 15 minutes, if you choose to.

Hotel management and service are very kind and most helpful, especially when it comes to sightseeing the Venice but from different perspective - Venetian perspective. That is priceless! They could offer you things like this: to dine in a restaurants with authentic Venetian cuisine and aperitifs, trip through Venetian canals in small boats and with guides that are familiar with more intimate history of Venice, sightseeing the plaza's that are secluded from regular tourists but of great beauty and cultural value, booking a tickets in Teatro San Gallo if you want to know more about Venetian history, culture and heritage and and much more.

So, if this isn't enough I don't know what is!?!

Vecellio is situated right on the edge of the lagoon with cafes and restaurants right around it. San Marco square is only a 20 min walk away. Matteo is a great host and a good laugh. Highly recommended!
