My family stayed at the hotel for 3 nights after a less than stellar start to our vacation. We arrived in Venice mid-morning. The vaporetto took us to the stop almost at the hotel doorstep. We found the hotel quite easily with their directions. Our room was not ready, but we were allowed to store our luggage and given a lunch recommendation that was spot on.
Upon returning from lunch, our room was ready. We stayed in the junior suite. What a beautiful and spacious room overlooking the courtyard. It was nice to be able to spread out and not feel cramped.
Walter and Sandro, along with the other desk personnel, were very personable and knowledgeable. Walter booked a tour of the Grand Canal for us on extremely short notice the first day of our stay. My remedial grasp of the Italian language was never a problem, as the staff was fluent in multiple languages.
We enjoyed the breakfast each morning out in the courtyard. The food was very good, from the pastries (chocolate croissants, etc.) to the fruit to the beverages. Again, the waitstaff was wonderful, especially one in particular, but I never did get her name (my apologies). She greeted us every morning with a wonderful smile that never left her. I watched her as she interacted with all the guests in the same manner, doting on the children. Later, we saw her upstairs with the same attitude and enthusiasm.
The San Stae location is an oasis away from the hustle and bustle that is Venice. After touring around the city, it was nice to come back to the hotel to re-energize. Sometimes, we would come back and sit in the courtyard, reading or just relaxing. There are many good restaurants and shops in the area as well, so we didn't have to fight the throngs for a good table next to a back canal.
The night before we left, we informed the front desk personnel that we had to leave prior to breakfast. The next morning, we were pleasantly surprised to be presented with pastries and rolls to eat on the train. This hotel definitely went above and beyond for us. We were truly sad to leave that day, but we know that we will return. A presto!
