I booked this hotel because of the glowing reviews in trip advisor and felt I had to write about my experience. We arrived late at night (having given advance warning to the hotel) and were given room 401. This has a tiny bathroom, the smallest I've ever seen in any hotel and believe me I've been travelling for at least 20 years. I had to climb over the toilet to get into the shower which was over a 'bath' which was about half the size of a normal bath. The room was also freezing because it was in an outbuilding attached to the hotel. I complained but was told the hotel was full and couldn't change room until the next day.
The next morning we were moved to room 502 in the basement of the main building. This time the problem was the smell of drains and dampness which triggered my asthma and ruined my weekend.
The bar lacked atmosphere, probably because of the unwelcoming barmen working there.
On the positive side, I must say the breakfast was excellent and managed by very friendly staff and the location was perfect. However, don't go there expecting a 4 star hotel and please make sure you don't get the rooms we were given.

“Fantasic location - lovely and clean”

Due to reviews seen here on the TripAdvisor, my partner and I took a chance on this hotel. We were not disapointed. The location is great - off the tourist track and you felt you mixed with the locals. All comments made in other reviews are exactly what we experience.
In no time we became locals of a wine bar called La Cantina - on the Strata Nova. Nearby is a great restaurant - Vini Da Gigio. Was packed everynight!
We recommend Trattoria 'Ai Cugnai' - address, di Andreatto Leonida - family run place...two old women serve you and they really make you welcome! We will definately be back!

I was nearly not going to book this hotel due to the reviews saying it was off the beaten track. I'm glad i did !!! Myself and my husband have just returned from a wonderful few days in Venice and we loved this hotel. Yes the rooms are small, but beautifully decorated, and who spends the whole holiday in their room anyway? The staff were very friendly, and the nice barman makes a wonderful Belini (cheaper than Harrys bar!) We did not have a view of the canal, but we saw canals all day long, so we did not need one. The breakfast buffet is delicious, especially the chocolate crossiants and pine nut tart! The staff were all very friendly, the waiter in the breakfast room deserves a special mention! The only thing that lets this hotel down is that it doesn't have a restaurant. This was our second trip to Venice, the first time we stayed on the Lido. If we went back, and i hope we do, we would DEFINATELY be staying here.

This was our second trip to Venice. We were thrilled to be located in the Cannareggio - in a neighborhood and out of the heavily touristed areas.

We walked from the train station to the hotel when we arrived. Our luggage was on wheels and it just took us about 15 or 20 minutes...very easy...and exciting to explore along the way. We walked nearly everywhere (with a good map) for the four days we were there - the walk to locations was as fascinating as the destination. We did take the vaporetto to San Marco - it was just about a 5 minute walk from the hotel to the vaporetto stop.

Our room was very large - even by American standards - and pleasantly decorated. The bathroom was beautiful (loved the heated towel bar). Breakfast was nice and convenient. Fairly standard European buffet served in a nice room.

One of the best restaurants in Venice (in our opinion) is just down the street - Anice Stellato. It was superb...warm and charming on a March evening. Our main dish was a mounded platter of the most delicately deep fried seafood. The restaurant was packed with locals.

We would have loved to stay longer in Venice and at the Ai Mori d'Oriente...and will certainly return again.

“A great find!”

Excellent hotel, value for money. (I emailed hotel and booked direct with very helpful and efficient staff to get best rate in comparison to other websites).
Walked from Pza Roma after late arrival and with a map it is okay to find, and there is a signpost to the hotel on a little alleyway nearby.
Definitely enjoyed being just a little away from the tourist hordes and felt very safe at all times as a single female with 2 children.
Found fantastic pizza restaurant called Vesuvio (recommended by the hotel and by a 1999 Rough Guide so still in business!)- ask hotel for directions.
Lots of tourist places don't take credit card (some entry fees, concert tickets, local bars, waterbus passes etc so take enough cash!) Waterbus passes excellent value and our tickets were checked.
Tip-Got bus to Lido for a beach afternoon- just walk across from Lido vaporetto stop down Gran Viale Santa Maria Elisabetta to the beach on the Adriatic.
Finally, if you know even a few words of Italian use them- the Italians definitely appreciate the effort and in some places service improved considerably!
