“Five stars all the way !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

We arrived, in (unseasonal) torrential rain and gale force winds. Eleanora together with another lady ( who turned out to be the cleaner ) carried our suitcases up the stairs for us to our room which had three windows overlooking canals We might have been wet but we were in heaven !
Throughout our seven day stay, we were looked after like long distance friends to the extent that some mornings we really could happily have stayed at the breakfast table talking with Eleanora rather than going out ! Incidentally, the breakfasts were great ! Fruit juices, cereals, muesli, fruit, meat, cheese and not forgetting the coffee. As many other people have commented, the location is excellent; You're in a quiet backwater but only a few hundred yards from the major tourist attractions Did I say quiet? Well it is, apart from the gondoliers passing below our windows in the morning. Wonderful sounds to start your day... On our last morning, our breakfast was ready early for us, as requested and Eleanora told us we should use the Giglie vaporetti stop because we would not have to climb any steps and cross over bridges with the suitcases. She also said we could take the 'Orange' line, which goes all the way up the Grand Canal, on our way to the airport. What a way to finish the holiday ! This is the first time we have stayed with Eleanora but hopefully it will not the the last. Grazie mille Eleanora

Room Tip: You'll be happy whichever room you are in !

If you want to stay in the San Marco quarter (not a must), this is a great B&B, right in the center but on a quiet bystreet overlooking a charming little canal. We stayed there in early May for 2 nights and loved it. The room was large and in good taste, excellent shower, very clean. Lots of details helped to make our stay comfortable: a safe deposit box in the room, a kettle in the room, fruit and cookies always there on the counter in the dining room.

Eleonora, the owner, is like your Italian cousin. She made us feel really welcome and offered help with everything, lending me an adaptor for my ebook, helping us look up train schedules for the rest of the trip, making great restaurant recommendations (especially A Beccafico and La Rivetta, both authentic and fun, especially the latter, but friendly to tourists).

A general note about choosing the neighborhood in Venice: the historic center is actually very small, we ended up crossing it all by foot even though I was with my mother who is over 80, and the vaporettos take you everywhere anyway. So it's perfectly all right to be on the periphery. But if you do want to stay in a central neigborhood like San Marco, Al Teatro is warmly recommended.

My wife and I were completing our 25th anniversary tour of Italy with a stay in magical Venice, and were looking for a (relatively) reasonably priced place to stay for 3 nights near the centre of the city. Since we were planning a night at La Fenice, it seemed only right to stay at Al Teatro which is across the canal. We chose the Amber room, with its balcony overlooking the canal and gondola routes, which proved to be large and comfortable with a modern bathroom . It was as if Venice was brought right into our room, as we were serenaded throughout the day (although there is a curfew of 8:30 for the gondolas, so no worries about being kept awake all night). Eleanora was a goldmine of travel info and helpful tips on how to get the most out of our time in her city, with recommendations about when to visit various sites at the least busy times, and where the locals eat. When we heard unexpected sirens in the evening we were perplexed about what was going on, but a knock came on the door shortly after, explaining that there would be high water shortly, and that if we wanted to go out for dinner we had better leave shortly. The next night we planned to go to the opera and were wondering how to deal with the water which would be at high tide when we got out, but Eleanora went to the storage room to find rubber boots in our sizes, which were very welcomed when we came back to the B&B through water over our ankles. On our rainy last day, she booked a water taxi for us, then made sure we were safely on board before saying her farewells. In her words, she was 'only doing my job', but her hospitality and helpfulness ensured that our trip came to a wonderful end. Grazie Eleanora.

We stayed at the Al Teatro Bed and Breakfast or one night, however wished we could have stayed longer. The location is ideal, it is walking distance to St Mark's square and to the Rialto bridge. The room is spacious and modern and Elenora was extremely nice and helpful. We had a room that faced the canals where we could see and hear the gondoliers. We would definitely consider staying here the next time we are in Venice.

My daughter and I spent two nights at Al Teatro B&B and it was a wonderful place to end our trip to Italy. Our room was beautiful with windows overlooking the canal. It was in a very quiet area right in the heart of Venice (only about a 10 minute walk to St. Mark's square), and we loved hearing the gondoliers singing as they passed outside our window. Eleonora is a wonderful host and the breakfast was lovely. Also had the largest shower of any B&B that we stayed in during our trip. We will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the room with a canal view. We really enjoyed hearing and seeing the gondoliers going pas...

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at Al Teatro.

We loved the location. It is tucked away on Fondamenta de la Fenice across a small canal from the opera house of the same name and just minutes away from Piazza San Marco -- but away from the crowds and congestion of St Mark's.

We've never been to Venice before, but it was easy to find. By getting off at the Santa Maria del Giglio vaporetto (water bus) stop, it's a quick two minute, level, one-turn walk to the B&B. There are no bridges to cross and if you have wheeled luggage, it couldn't be easier. The website gives detailed clear instructions and if you do a Google map directions search, you'll see what I mean by the almost straight walk from the vaporetto stop.

We found our hostess, Eleonora, to be kind and helpful. She made several recommendations which we followed (both for restaurants and sightseeing) and were glad that we did. Venice is a very easy city to get around, but it's nice to have a local's perspective and assistance.

We stayed in the Green Room which was spacious, airy and well-appointed. It's probably the roomiest European B&B we've stayed in. Larger, in fact, than some European hotel rooms. The bathroom had all modern fixtures and was clean and bright. Breakfast was typically European with juices, fruit, cereals, assorted pastries, cheese, assorted meats and beverage -- light by North American standards, but for us, a perfect start to the day (and Eleonora's cappuccinos were wonderful)!

If (when) we return to Venice, we would not hesitate to book here again.

Al Teatro Bed & Breakfast is a magical place to stay, right in the heart of Venice.

Our room was beautiful, with a large comfortable bed and three windows looking out over a quiet canal junction just behind the theatre. From time to time we could see and hear Gondoliers singing as they passed. The bedroom and bathroom were large clean and very well-equipped.

It was the beginning of the Carnival, and Eleonora, the owner was the perfect hostess. Every morning at breakfast she gave us tips and advice and helped us to plan our day. She recommended restaurants that served good food at modest prices, where she and her family often go and they were all great.

The location was excellent, Just a short walk from St Marks square and very close to the Giglio vaporetto stop.

Being a travel professional for many years, I can highly recommend Al Teatro Bed & Breakfast to anyone who is looking for a very special place to stay while visiting Venice.
