“weren't booked here and they still took us in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Because I mixed up the dates, our room was given away at another hotel and Marina and Duana stepped in to give us shelter. This hotel is very clean, had a nice room with courtyard view, bidet, hair dryer, and heated towel rack. Marina, the hotel manager, was very helpful in drawing directions for us on our map so that we wouldn't get lost. We had great breakfasts and Duana spoke good English even though she didn't think so. Loconda d Console is also perfectly situated in the city for all of the main tourist attractions, but also the feeling that you can escape the tourists and see the heart of Venice.

Room Tip: they let us pick our room when we arrived

We found this place on the web as we were looking for something near both the Rialto bridge and St Marks Square. The rooms on the third floor are quite nice once you get there after all the stairs. It was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was OK (great coffee). The cleaner was very helpful if you needed anything and the rooms were very clean.

The Hotel Locanda Ca' del Console is perfectly situated for access to all of the main attractions that Venice has to offer. Our "Room of Dreams" overlooked the canal, which added to the feeling of being part of Venice, yet still maintaining a wonderful serenity. We were made to feel so very welcome and at home by the members of staff, who dealt with all of our requirements with efficiency , in the absence of Marina, who was on a vacation at the time of our stay, which certainly did not detract from our good impression.

this was a very difficult place to find so do yourself a favor and hire a porter when you arrive by boat at either Rialto or St Marco also travel light, there are so many winding passageways some no more than a meter wide and so many steps to negotiate not least the ones that lead to this bed and breakfast. We arrived very hot and tired but were offered a cold water before the formalities of paperwork. we were shown to a room off a central dining area which was definitely not a triple room. It was actually a double room with a very uncomfortable pull-out bed. We made it clear that it was not what we ordered and finally our grand daughter was given a small room next to ours. the next day we were relocated to an upper floor with a two room suite at an extra although reasonable charge. the property needs a major overhaul but in the short term could improve itself by getting rid of some furniture, ancient dried flower arrangements and bizarre ornamentation. Our bedroom with ensuite had a noticeable smell of drains which was a bit off putting but I guess part of Venice. Overall we ended up liking our hosts and liking the area which was not too touristy yet central to San Marco. There is a really good local restaurant across Ponte Minich right outside this bed and breakfast. Parking for Venice is not as scary as we thought it would be. Directions to the multi story (Tronchetta) are clear and charges are reasonable at 21 euro a day.

Room Tip: Top floor for privacy and a quieter night, the canals are busy until quite late!

The hotel refused to relay a message from the water taxi company because they wanted me to book through them !

Also they asked me to pay cash before our stay was over,

Other than that, it was fine.

It is disturbing though about the water taxi incident.

Locanda Ca' del Consle:

Positives
-It seemed to be in a decent location (near the center of Venice).

The negatives:
-Reliability. I had read some reviews that questioned the reliability. After sending two emails, one a month in advance and one a couple days in advance, that we would be arriving late (around 8:30 pm) nobody was at the hotel to greet us. We tried buzzing for several minutes. Then after finding a cafe with wifi, we were able to call (via skype) the number provided on the confirmation. After calling twice, we were able to talk to our future host. Without an apology, she directed us to wait by the outside door. After waiting ten minutes for her, she finally arrived. Inside, she showed us to our rooms and gave us the key ring, with four keys on it. After describing which key was for which door, she proceded to test me, demanding for me to repeat after her each key's function. Arriving around 8:30, we were expecting to be able to go out to dinner, however due to the service described above we weren't able to head out for dinner until 10:15 pm. For one of our two night in Venice we ate at a minimart/tobacco shop. The morning we checked out we asked if we could leave our bags at the hotel and pick them up at 5:00 pm. This time didn't work for our host, so she proposed 5:30. We arrived at 5:30 to pick up our bags. After buzzing the desk and waiting 10 minutes for her to arrive, someone was luckily leaving and let us in. Finally, around 5:45, when we were leaving with our bags, our host had still not arrived to let us in as she had promised she would 5:30. We got to our train with no time to spare.

-Breakfast. Frozen rolls, rice crispies, yogurt cups, and fruit punch. No orange juice, and nothing close to fresh fruit or edible bread. Our first morning, another guest asked politely in English (his second language) for a cup of coffee. Our host, asked what type of coffee. The guest, with a limited use of English tried to describe a cup of drip cuffee, which she didn't have. She did however, have a machine that made "esspreso" (tastes like diesel). After insisting that the guest change his mind to what she had, and his polite refusal, she turned her back on him and left the room grumbling in Italian.

The rooms: Summer in Venice is HOT. We were very glad to be staying somewhere with AC, we thought. The AC unit started squeaking as our host finished showing us our room. She shook it and it stopped just long enough for her to get to out of the door. Do not expected airconditioning while you are in your room, unless you brought ear plugs. In addition to the airconditioning problem, our room felt generally run down and of poor quality. Low water pressure, twin beds pushed together to make a queen, fraying rug and sheets, a broken table, and many cracks in the plaster.

We book 3 days triple room. Upon arrival nobody new where it was (according to the address they use on the ad) Called the hotel and talked, she said an attendant was on her way to meet us at specific place in 15 min. After 1 hr wait and several calls back and forth, we decided to find it ourselves. We found the address and called and they told us to wait there. The attendant showed up and her greetting was "I am very angry, you did not wait and I was there for one hour" We got in an argument, she said we were not there and keep on and on and on. We told her that's not they way you greet your patrons and we will not stay there and demanded our money then she slow down a little and walk us to and apartment (not what we though we paid for) It was a nice clean apartment close to San Marcos. We had fun in Venice. Today still feels like a nigthmare. WE will never return to this place.

Room Tip: Book another place if you can!
