My friend and I took 2 elderly ladies and had a wonderful time. The location is perfect and the staff are so helpful. Very clean rooms and an excellent continental breakfast. We loved sitting in the window seats overlooking the Grand Canal, admiring the wonderful architecture and watching the gondolas go by, complete wilth musicians and singers. Can't wait to go back and visit again.

My husband surprised me with an easy jet trip from England to Venice. It was so easy to get to. We followed the instructions listed in our e-mail from Giorgio. We had a jr. suite and it was gorgeous with this waterfront view. We only stayed one night, but what a magical time it was. We were able to walk to St. Mark's square, which made me have the feeling from the commerical, "I really love this man." The staff couldn't be any more accommodating. Allowing us to send an e-mail with their computer and directions to a local restaurant to eat. There was a buffet breakfast that was superb. And the woman tending to it provided me with a box of italian cookies. I can't wait to go back.

Having read all the other reviews before we left, our expectations of Ca'Angeli were very high - and the hotel exceeded them.

We stayed one night in room 22, which looked onto a very quiet courtyard, then 3 nights in room 1, which looks directly onto the Grand Canal. Both were wonderful, although the experience of watching the Grand Canal and all its traffic from the room, day and night, was particularly great.

Finding the hotel was no problem. After getting a quote of 55 euros for a taxi ride from the train station to the hotel, we opted for the vaporetto - it was quick and easy. We used a map we printed from the hotel web site, and although we were never certain that we were making the righ turns, we found it on the first try.

I highly recommend a map called Streetwise Venice, which I got from Amazon before leaving. It has every street named on the map, and has a street, campo, bridge, etc index with which you can find anything. It is laminated, and accordion folds to a small size. We were never lost, although a few times we needed to refer to the map to figure out EXACTLY where we were.

So, back to the hotel - the breakfasts were the best we had in Italy. Cereal, great fresh fruit, orange juice that was the best ever (and we are from California, which is orange central) especially the blood orange juice, eggs, meat, cheese, and fabulous pastries. There was more... just can't remember it all. And we loved the living room, and the two windowseats directly over the canal - I spend a lot of time hanging out there, even though the view from our room was the same.

Staff was great and attentive, the whole experience just could not have been better. We WILL return!

  • Liked — The amazing view of the Grand Canal, the lovely room, and the breakfasts
  • Disliked — Can't think of anything that I did not like

We stayed 5 days in room #21 Oct 5-10, 2006, and we loved it! The bathroom was marble with the coolest shower I have ever seen. Good beds, the usual amenities. Georgio the owner and his team are the best, super friendly and all spoke excellent English. He recommended some good restaurants nearby. The location right on the Grand Canal is a 10, and the sitting room has large windows where you can watch the world sail past. It's on the top 2 floors of a palazzo, and I saw it on a map from 1531 in the Correr museum on the Piazzo San Marco. The huge breakfast was excellent, with eggs, meats, cheeses, and best of all fresh (like a minute ago!) squeezed orange juice. The water taxi dropped us about 50 ft from the front door, and it was only a 3 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge, 2 minutes to the vaporetto stop! We highly recommend Ca' Angeli to everyone except wheelchair bound visitors, as there are about 5 steps up to the elevator.

Excellent place to stay at if you are fortunate enough to find a room so book way early or you may find only one of the more expensive rooms avaliable like we did which made the place that much more wonderful. Venice is LaLa land and like disneyland almost unreal, too touristic, and and outrageously expensive. You will spend more for food to dine out then other places in Italy so budget accordingly if you want to dine well, take that mandatory gondala ride (around 90 eoros) and have that frightfully expensive but necessary beverage at a cafe in St. Marks square watching the pigeons do you know what to the tourist. Make sure you map out and have you ducks in order as to how to get to this charming place once you disembark off of the water Taxi at Silvestri stop on the Grand Canal. It is a maze in the beginning , especially if you are tired coming off of a train or plane , but you do get used to it. Also, for those who plan to leave Venice by train and it is still tourist season which unbelievably runs throught late october, do book passage out on the Eurostar train (the Fast one) a head of time, otherwise, you may have to take the local. The staff are so helpful ,and the view in the sitting room overlooking the Grand Canal so delightful, and the breadfast is more than adequate-so what can I say , you are so lucky to stumble on to this place and be fortunate enough to stay there. This opinion is from someone who also stays at five star properties. There is this famous bridge called the Rialto (I hope my spelling is correct) and the Rialto bridge is one of a handful that cross the Grand Canal. Once you cross the Rialto which is a short walk from the Bed and breadfast, and you must do so to get to St. Marks, the world and atmosphere changes and there are more tourist and congestion. In other words, you will appreciate going over the Rialto on your way back leaving and getting away from all that hustle and congestion and consider yourself so fortunate with the location of this bed and breadfast. When you leave this property and immediately get on the main drag make a left (away from the direction of the Rialto bridge ) if you want to explore the more authentic less touristic parts of Venice by foot. Enjoy!
