“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

A little tricky to find but in a perfect position. Centrally located and within an easy walk of everything. The owners are fantastic. Very friendly and accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. If you have problems with stairs, then this may not be the place for you as there is no lift and four flights of stairs to the top floor will test the stamina! Overall, a very pleasant 3 night stay.

Room Tip: Lower floor if you have trouble with stairs

My two friends and I stayed for two nights at Laterna di Marco Polo. It is located very close to St. Mark's Square. The two owners were very nice and helpful.

The free wi-fi worked well in the room, which is a nice bonus. The simple breakfast was good and filling enough to carry us through to a late lunch.

The building is hundreds of years old and as such, there is no elevator. We were on the 4th floor, about 60 steps. If the steps are an issue, you probably would want to request a lower floor. The room that we had had three beds (per our request) and timbered ceilings. It is quaint and cozy but worked out just fine. Everything was very clean, which to me is super important.

Also, if you want a hair dryer, be sure to request it when you check in.

Room Tip: If walking up many steps is a problem, be sure to request a lower floor since there is no elevator.

The rooms were fine and relative to the *very* central location were quite quiet. And let me say - I don't think there could be a more perfect spot to station yourself during a visit in Venice.
The place may be modest yet is cosy, comfortable and clean. Ok, the TV could probably use a few non-Italian channels (we had none), and the breakfast is indeed as simple as it gets.

The place, however, met our expectations completely. The hosts, Guido and Riccardo, very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to assist with great recommendations for restaurants or places of intetest, directions, explanations and bookings.

Bottom line, we had a wonderful stay here and would definitely recommend this place to our friends or come back ourselves.

This is the perfect location if you want to stay in central Venice and explore. It is so close to some of the main tourist sites and close to vaperetto stops. The room seemed very traditional with exposed wooden beams and shutters. The room was an excellent size, bed was comfy, bathroom clean with some complimentary toiletries and the room was cleaned each day. A continental breakfast was included in the price of our stay which set us up nicely for the day ahead. The owners are friendly and helpful. If we are lucky enough to return to Venice we would be sure to stay here again as it fitted our needs perfectly and was very reasonable in price.

As a base for exploring the main tourist areas of Venice, the Lanterna is pretty hard to beat, situated as it is only a couple of minutes walk from the Rialto area, and about five minutes from St. Mark's Square. The hotel's spice-named rooms (we were staying in Vanilla) are quaint but comfortable. Ours had exposed beams in the ceiling, a comfortable bed and enough room to relax when we weren't enjoying the city. They also had free wi-fi, an unexpected and welcome bonus.

The proprietors were fantastic. Friendly and helpful with a few useful tips on how to get the most out of our stay. They also, very kindly, allowed us to leave our luggage in the hotel after we'd checked out; which, as our return flight wasn't until late at night, was a massive help and made our final day far more enjoyable than it would've been if we'd had to lug our cases around. Breakfast was continental style and very pleasant and we really couldn't fault our stay there at all.

A very small hotel built into a protected 17th century palazzo. Run by Guido and Riccardo who couldn't do enough for us. When I say the hotel is small it has only 8 rooms and the breakfast area has only four tables. But the location and the atmosphere of the hotel make it a jewel. One to go back to and we've got a discount voucher for next time!

Room Tip: Being in a protected building in has no lift - they can't get permission. So, if you book, chec...

We couldnt have been happier at the Lanterna di Marco Polo! When hotel hunting we found so many of the hotels to be upwards of $700 a night. This place, for less than 1/3 that, offered everything we could have wanted. We also could have stayed cheaper and shared a bathroom, which we didnt want to do. It is located right between the Rialto Bridge and St Marks Square and is just 3 short blocks from the Rialto vaporetto stop. The location was perfect.
Our room was nice and confortable. The bathroom was bright and clean and the shower was a little small but we never ran out of hot water and there are towel warmers for the winter. We even had a mini-bar stocked with items at reasonable prices. The window shutters were great in keeping the sun and most of the street noise out. (Wish I had them at home) The a/c worked really well and there was a safe in the room. I like a really thick pillow so I always travel with an inflatable one in case the pillows are flat ($6) and I used it and slept really well. Breakfast consisted of cheese, ham, cereal, bread, yogurt, danishes, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and tea which was quite sufficient. If you want a hot meal, one can be found within a block or 2. The tv really only gets italian channels, but hopefully you didnt go to Venice to watch tv. There are plenty of steps, so request a lower floor in advance if you have lots of luggage.
The owners Riccardo and Guido were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about everything in Venice. They greeted us every morning at breakfast and asked what our plans were for the day. They happily offered suggestions on what to do, how to get there, and tips and shortcuts. They saved us $$ on suggesting we take the boat to Murano and Burano ourselves (w/o a tour). I'm glad we did as a tour is not necessary, time restrictive, and twice the price. They also responded quickly to emails before our arrival, sending us directions and a map to the hotel.
The front desk is not manned after 5:30pm...if you arrive late, a code is provided so you can get in and your key will be left in a designated place. Free Wifi is available down in the lobby.
If we ever have the pleasure of going back, we will definitely stay at the Lanterna again. Ciao!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 2nd floor (the 3rd floor equivalent in the USA) in the Curcuma room. The rooms are...
