“A very welcome break in San Polo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

San Polo is a lively district and good for shopping. We found this restaurant to be an ideal spot to take a break and it was very reasonably priced. The pizzas are of superior quality, while the veal is but average and the service is extremely friendly and attentive - so much so that we returned on a couple of occasions, one of which was for our evening meal. We were consequently generously treated to complimentary cocktails. This restaurant represents good value for money, is relaxing and is certainly worth a visit.

“OK, but just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

We chose the set menu lunch which was reasonably priced at ?12 per person. It included a pasta dish or soup 'prima' and calamari or chicken 'secondo'. Surprised when these arrived together and in the case of the pasta and calamari on the same plate! We had to ask for bread and when it came they were very ordinary bread rolls, the kind of thing you get with airline economy travel.

The meal was reasonably priced. The cover charge ?2.50 each and the bottled water ?4.

So, pretty good value for money and the food was certainly OK

“Fantastic start, then a big fat ZERO”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Afetr arriving in Venice in the evening we found this restaurant near our hotel.
There was a choice of 3 restaurants but this gave off a nicer image than the others so we entered.
The house wine seemed pricy but as it was our first port of call in Venice wshrugged it off as we know Venice is not cheap. It was truly awful stuff served with a smirk from the waiter on top.
The first courses ( all a variety of pastas) arrived , wow, pleasantly suprised as they were large , generous portions and seemed freshly cooked .Really couldnt fault them.
Then the main dishes arrived, between us we had salmon, escalope milanese and the "mixed sea food platter".
Mine was the escalope, even now i cannot fathom what it was an escalope of, all i know is that it was more than likely bought in a budget supermarket and fried accordingly.
The seafood platter turned out to be 4/5 1 inch long small fried fish, 3 pieces of rubbery squid and 2/3 mussels which were straight out of a jar.
The salmon was very small, maybe 1 inch wide by 4 inches long, more a strip than a fillet, and was very dry , to the point of being unable to cut with a knife and not seasoned at all.
They were all served with a small amount of fries which were , well, fries........
I was so disgusted with the escalope of white ,mushy meat substitute that i left it on the table next to us to show my unhappiness but the owner did not bat an eyelid when removing it, let alone ask "is everything ok, with your meal sir?".
We declined desserts and coffees and left after paying the bill complete with the extra cover and service charges.
Was really dissappointed here, but as with most Venetian restaurants, they dont care, you are a tourist, and they know they will probably never see you again.
