“Venetian Jewel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

I read the reviews of this hotel and was worried it sounded too good to be true. It wasn't.
My wife and I arrived for a 3 day stay in Venice to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary having stayed on Lake Garda with friends for a few days beforehand. We had booked a junior suite with canal view and were shown to a suite with garden view. I pointed this out to hotel reception and within 5 minutes we were shown to a canal view suite and offered the choice. We chose the garden room suite with its own balcony overlooking the lovely inner courtyard. The hotel sent complimentary prosecco and strawberries as a "Happy Anniversary" welcome. This hotel is wonderful. I had read some adverse comments regarding breakfast but it was absolutely fine for us. My wife enjoyed the yoghurt and commented that this can be a big disappoinment but at Ai Reali, the yoghurt was delicious. Coffee was always hot and a good start to the day. The staff were outstanding and made the stay memorable. We enjoyed the inner courtyard as a late evening haven for relaxing drinks and were served by attentive, efficient and friendly staff. I shall remeber our waiter fondly and his sambucca on ice with coffee beans is a lasting memory! The staff combine high quality service with a friendly, welcoming manner that makes you feel at home (a very grand and glamorous home) from the moment you arrive until the sad moment you leave.
The location of the hotel is fabulous - 2 minutes from Rialto and a short stroll from St Mark's square. If you want to arrive and leave in style there is a mooring with water taxi access. Get lost down a side street and it's not a problem. Simply look for a Rialto sign and hey presto back on track.
I did read that this hotel is in the top ten of Venetian hotels. It is easy to see why. Would we go back? Without hesitation. Would I recommend it? Without hesitation. In summary, this is one of the best hotels going. There is some "work in progress" such as an ice machine that is not yet functional, but this is a hotel to recommend and visit. Thank you so much to all the staff

I hastily reserved the Hotel Ai Reali after managing to find some plane tickets to Venice from Tokyo for the wife and myself, and after consulting trip advisor. Suffice to say we were awestruck at the beauty of the city of Venice and the hotel just added to the whole experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was very nicely decorated and clean, and the location was just right. Very close to the Rialto bridge and a short walk to st mark's square, gives enough close access to the tourist traps but allows a surprising amount of privacy and solitude. There were a few facilities being finished while we were staying, once they're open I can't imagine this hotel not getting 5 stars. As everyone else mentions this may be a hidden gem at the moment but reckon reservations may be tough to get in the near future. Would love to stay there again if we get the chance

This is a new hotel which most Venetians don't yet know, but they will. The staff are truly wonderful - warm, knowledgeable and very helpful. For our taste it was a tad too clinical - flowers and plants would help. Needs to have more of a lived in feel. These are small details - the hotel is a treasure and we would definitely go back again.

Hotel ai Reali is located in Castello very close to the Rialto Bridge but in a small campo next to an interior canal, so tucked away and very quiet. It had just opened in Nov. 2012 but all the reviews on it were excellent. It was a perfect location easy to walk everywhere and close to the Rialto Bridge stop for the vaporetto.

The lobby as well as the rooms were decorated in the grand Venetian style with fabric wall coverings, chandeliers, and marble bathrooms.

I had booked a Classic room for my mom and dad and a Deluxe room for hubby, I and our 17 yo son. When we arrived they said they had upgraded us both to a Junior Suite!! Our room was very nice and very large with a nice view of the canal. Probably the largest hotel room we had ever had in Europe. In addition to our king size bed they had a roll away for Michael and a couch, coffee table and round table. Unfortunately, the roll away bed was not that large and Michael who is about 5’10″ and thin, found it quite narrow. Probably best for smaller kids, not an adult or older teenager. The closet was actually a small room so tons of space for us to keep all of our luggage. The wifi connection in the room and lobby was excellent and the towels were nice and soft and fluffy – probably due to the fact that the hotel was new. The hallways and landing areas were also very large and nicely decorated.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant which was nice and the rooms had a view of the canal. It was not one large room but several smaller rooms, and we never had a problem finding a table. A nice breakfast buffet with the usual meats, cheeses, cereals and pastries but also scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and some yogurt that Stephen particularly liked. The ladies in the breakfast room were very nice and helpful.

Stephen did use the sauna and jacuzzi which is a nice addition to the hotel. He said they were both nice, however, the jacuzzi was not hot enough and they would not let you turn the jets on because apparently they make too much noise and disturb the rooms below. Too bad, because this is a welcome amenity to a hotel in Venice, and unfortunate that you can not use it the way it is intended. They also have a spa which we did not use, but they generally were offering specials each day at breakfast if you made an appointment that day.

We do not usually eat in the hotel restaurant when traveling, but we arrived in the evening and by the time we checked in and got settled, it was almost 9pm. I had read good reviews of the hotel’s restaurant, Alle Corone, so we decided to just eat there. Hubby and I shared a salad and son had a fish carpaccio to start. Hubby and son had tagliata which was excellent and cooked a perfect medium rare. I ordered the spaghetti with scampi. When it came it did not look all that exciting, but the flavor was delicious and the scampi very sweet. The servers here were also very nice and extremely helpful in explaining things on the menu.

On our last night we had determined that our best meal by far was the meal at the hotel so we decided to return there and my parents joined us this time. (The first night they were exhausted and just went to sleep). Another wonderful meal – I had ordered the calf liver with apples and a side of creamy polenta. The dish was quite large and I thought I will never be able to eat that much liver but it was so good that I finished it all!

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel ai Real. I suspect next year at this time this place will be more popular so I would book further in advance!

Our first trip to Venice was enchanting, & the Hotel Ai Reali was a perfect location to explore this unique city. We arrived by water taxi (Which is a must do - book through Consorzio Motoscafi it is about 20 euros cheaper). We enjoyed an excellent Aperol Spritz in the courtyard while we waited for the luggage to be taken up. The room was a good size for a junior suite with the most magnificent carved ceiling with gold leaf & a beautiful Murano glass chandelier (Room 202).
The front desk staff were very welcoming & exceptionally helpful during our stay, particularly Phillip, who went beyond the call of duty to ensure we got the most out of our stay.
I can only find a few negatives with the hotel. Firstly the fitness room, which is included in the list of facilities on-line & appears in the in-room brochures is yet to be built. Secondly, the spa on the top floor, while superbly fitted out, cost an additional 20 euros per person. I would expect this to be included at these prices & while it is a relatively small sum, it seemed a bit cheeky for a jacuzzi & steam room. Finally breakfast could have been better for a number of reasons, mainly that the lovely staff seemed a little over worked, which meant service wasn't slick & that the choice could have been greater. The coffee however was magnificent!
Finally, on Venice itself. Take my advice and book a guide for a few hours one morning or afternoon and try and see the Venice beyond the guide books. I cannot recommend our guide Nadia Danesin enough. She gave us a real insight into the history of this incredible city & tailormade a trip to suit our needs. Check out her website www.friendinvenice.com & book before your trip.

We stayed at the hotel in April 2013, the location is perfect - quiet but situated between the Rialto Bridge and St Marks Square. Our double room was beautifully decorated and the marble bathroom a treat. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Loved the interior courtyard for lunch or just a coffee.
A lovely touch was being sent champagne and strawberries as a complimentary welcome.
Would have given five stars but the breakfast was not quite good enough needs a little work.

We have just returned from our first ever trip to Venice and loved it! The hotel totally matched up to all the excellent reviews. The staff were helpful and friendly and the room (304) was beautiful. It was a classic room but was more like a suite with three windows looking out onto the small canal at the side of the hotel. The furnishings were very classy and typical Venetian without being stuffy and over bearing. The hotel is easy to find from the Rialto stop, just take the turning by the Disney store and keep walking until you reach a bridge and the hotel is on your left. Location is excellent as it is equal distance between St Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge areas - just 10 minutes walk each way. As all the guidebooks say, be prepared to get lost, we didn't come back the same way twice but it is worth it for what you discover along the way!
We had a lovely meal in the hotel which was a cut above the restaurants outside. It was quite expensive but worth it for the quality and service. All the waiting staff were lovely and we had good wine recommendations.
Breakfast was OK, toast would have been nice. Croissants and pastries were nice and fresh. We had to leave at 7.45 on our second morning so we were there for breakfast opening at 7 and nothing was ready and we were unable to have bacon and egg that morning. May be worth telling reception if you are needing breakfast at opening time to ensure it is available. That said, it was a foggy morning so staff may have struggled to get in on time.
We would recommend taking tea/coffee in the bar at the end of a tiring afternoon, it is served beautifully and is not over priced considering you get a selection of petit fours with it.
All in all, a lovely stay in a gorgeous hotel which matches the beautiful city of Venice - highly recommended!
(One small drawback is the lack of any space for ladies to dry their hair or put on their make up other than a steamy bathroom - not good for someone whose hair frizzes at the smallest hint of humidity! The room needs a dressing table and mirror.)

Room Tip: Room 304 was excellent - lots of windows with views over a small canal. Beautifully decorated, huge...
