“Great for all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

This was a great choice. Close to all the markets, vaporetta, tratoria and little cafes. Lorenzo was a welcoming host and, in particular, made my mother feel so special. My 2 sisters, myself and mama! were made to feel very welcome and Lorenzo did all he could to help us. Strongly recommend this well appointed hotel. We had our own bathrooms and air conditioned rooms - and to be honest - in a crowded expensive Venice that's more than you can ask for without paying more for a place to sleep than the holiday itself!

Room Tip: be detailed in your room request. If you want a twin beds - stipulate it!!!!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

We stayed at the Hotel Henry on two separate ocassions in July 2011. We found that the quality of the rooms on our stays were very different. The first time our room was very hostal like and the bed quality wasn´t that high. We were on the top floor of a building opposite the reception and main building. The second time we were allocated rooms on the ground floor on either side of reception and these were more hotel like.
On our first stay we had a terrace área overlooking venice which was lovely. The problema being that we had to carry all our cases and two prams up three flights of stairs to get to our room. On the second stay we had rooms on the ground floor and had no terrace, but were able to make use of the chairs outside in the street for meals etc.
The hotel staff were nice and I was worried what they would be like before arriving due to previous reviews that I had read. I think from what I read and the man who greeted us on arrival I can only assume that there have been a few misunderstandings about allocations of rooms and prices due to them being sold incorrectly on booking.com and a language barrier. I paid no more than I had agreed to upon booking but the man explained that he would have trouble squeezing the extra bed we had paid for into our room as the room booked simply didn´t exist. In the end we got the bed in the room and even although it was a squash we all slept there for two nights as planned. We shared a bathroom but as this was just with one other room, it wasn´t difficult to get in for a shower or to use the toilet.
The hotel is near a vaporetto boat stop and about 10 mins walking distance from the train station and about 15 from the bus station. We made the mistake of taking a wáter taxi from Marco Polo airport and paying over the odds for this. On the way back we simply walked to the bus station (over two bridges) and just past the train station – which is a straight walk and signed as FerroVia. We payed 5 euros per person and the journey was entirely by land and took about 20 mins. Much cheaper and just about as quick. The wáter taxi cost us 120 euros on arrival.
The hotel was a bit expensive, but the cheapest I could find in Venice. There were no meals provided and it was basic. The staff are friendly, it is quite central and the people at the hotel are happy to supply maps and directions to wherever you want to go in Venice. If I was to choose a hotel to go back to in Venice I would happily book Hotel Henry again, unless of course there was a cheaper option as I always travel on a Budget.
I must add that on the first few days I was not aware that the hotel had WIFI but found this out on the second stay on my way back home (we went to a campsite on the Venetian Coast during the weeks in between). The wifi is free if you have a laptop and the service is good around the reception área (I didn´t test it out elsewhere). The receptionist will supply you with a password to Access the service and you can use it as long as you wish.

As a young student couple we had a very tight budget for an expensive city like Venice. Hotel Henry helped a great deal in giving us a great Venice experience at a low cost.

Booking hotel henry through a booking website meant that we spent far less than they advertise on the hotel website. For this cheap price we were given a small but clean and comfortable double private room with very nice en suite.

Everything about the hotel was fantastic and more than expected of a two star cheap hotel.

The only problem was the noise. The lack of insulation can make the place a little noisy. However to us this was only a small problem and it did not affect our enjoyment of the trip.

Overall a great place to stay, and contrary to the special circumstances of some of the travellers writing these reviews, we had a very good experience and you'd be a fool not to stay here for such a good rate!

Room Tip: Use a booking site and book early.

This is a small hotel with small-ish rooms, but it is Venice so unless you're willing to pay lots more for lots more space this is a good option.

Not too far away from the Grand Canal, and plenty of walking options to see the sights.

Lots of restaurants, cafes and little shops not too far away to really get the feel of this amazing city.

The rooms are in need of modernisation, the bedspreads reminded me of my grandmother's old ones, but the bathroom had recently been done up and to me that's more important than old fashioned flowery bedspreads.

I would recommend this hotel to other travellers; it's clean, it's safe and it's fairly comfortable. But if you like space and more modern furnishings look elsewhere.

The staff were very pleasant and approachable. On arrival, we were given a map, information on how to get to the more popular tourist sites and a telephone number that we could apparently use at any time if we got lost in Venice or otherwise needed any help - we never used it but it was a nice gesture. We even got a cheery greeting from one member of the staff when we found ourselves in the same local wine bar one evening so they clearly pay attention to their residents.

The location is great too and round the corner from plenty of restaurants, shops, bars and market. It's a little difficult to find at first and is tucked in a quiet little alley that we walked past a few times before we found it. About a 10 minute walk from the bus/train stations and Grand Canal.

The rooms themselves are quite small but plenty big enough for a short city break. They were clean enough and we had a private bathroom. Soundproofing wasn't a strong point and we could hear pretty much everything from the reception area. However, seeing as the reception wasn't open between 10.30 and 8.30 (approximately..), our sleep wasn't disturbed and it wasn't at all a problem.

Venice is apparently the most expensive city for accommodation in Italy so for the price, this hotel is an excellent choice!

Upon arriving, the very rude blond haired, icy blue eyed woman behind the counter informed us that because of a "flooding shower" they had to put us up in another location. (We found out later this was not a location of theirs!) I complained and said that it was not acceptable especially since I called in advance to confirm, this was our honeymoon, AND she didn't take the opportunity to tell us at that time when I called earlier to confirm our arrival time. She said she would throw in breakfast, we we later found out the other location came with breakfast. She also said there's wifi capabilities... again not true! We had a very bad feeling about this because we read the exact same review and occurance in another review! When we got to the other location, the place was basically comparable to a hostel. Do NOT stay here... this witch is just plain dishonest, and you will regret you ever came to Venice!!!!

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

I really enjoyed myself staying there.
ups
good location - close to the train station but also short walking distance to main
tourist attractions, a very enjoyable walking distance, since the
neighbourhood it is situated is lovely itself as well. Many shops,
restaurants etc really close.
cleanliness : room and bathroom inside were really clean, towels, sheets, shampoo and
body gel provided every day new ones, bathroom was brand new
room : room might be a bit small, but included double bed, wardrobe, table &
armchair, bathroom was equiped with hairdryer, it had anything you might
need, simple but nice venetian decoration

staff was very friendly and welcoming, eager to help with anything, provided a map

downs
not much.. just the total absense of insulation, but since buildings in Venice are very old, something you might expect
not really cheap, but everything in Venice is sky rocket expensive, so comparatively it was not bad at the end..
no wi fi
