Description: Al Squero is the only Osteria in Venice exactly in front of the Ancient Squero of San Trovaso. There is no other place where appreciating from its window the construction or restoration of original Venetian gondolas. Is is a cozy and comfortable place where you can share with friends a glass of Italian wine and taste an appetizing “cicchetto” at a small price. The selection of wines you can taste or buy at Al Squero comes from small regional wine firms of Friuli, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto, so that it is guaranteed unique care at the quality and distinctiveness of their products

“Probably best value in Venice, certainly cleanest, & AMAZING WC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

We came upon this by chance, when visiting Accademia. It is just off Zattere on Fondamente Nani, We instantly recognised the oldest working boatyard in Venice opposite, which is why we went in, keen to work our way through local wines having been inspired by our tour with Cecilia (Urban Adventures, also recommended) the night before.

The proprietor really responded to our interest and offered us wines for tasting at no charge. We were able to communicate in French (generally a better bet than English in Venice).

We tried a number of cichetti which we ate sitting on wooden benches looking at the aforementioned view. The very good range of wines available were only 2-3 euros each, and there was no charge for sitting down.

The loo, controlled by a key available to clients, no charge, is palatial, modern and spotlessly clean, as well as spacious. Definitely in a class of its own.

If we lived nearby (I wish) this would definitely be our local. Venice does not have to be a rip off. Don't miss it.

“Two in the same street”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

This is a great ciccheti bar a few doors down from Cantinone Gia Schiavi, so two gems in the same street. Lovely food and wine, similar very cheap prices to Gia Schiavi and has a few seats as well. Was playing Otis Redding when we were there. Not a bad way to spend lunchtime in Venice

“So glad we happened on this cicchetteria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

We happened on this place when after visiting nearby Al Bottegon (listed as Cantinone Gia Schiavi on TripAdvisor). I much preferred the food, atmosphere, and definitely service at Al Squero. The staff (I think they were maybe the owners) were extremely helpful and patient with our questions, and atmosphere was much more relaxed than Al Bottegon and great for sitting and enjoying our food and wine--one of the all-around best lunches I had in Venice!

“simple unpretentious bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

on one of the prettiest canals in Venice, opposite where the gondola's are repaired, this tiny bar is a perfect spot for a quick snack and a break. Serving interesting cicchetti (baccala, artichoke on cheese) at 1euro each, lovely spot to sit outside and watch the activities on the canal. Oh, and a very handy, spotlessly clean toilet
