“Perfect fo Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

It is very nice and modern and located in the heart of venice. The food was ok but you have to dine at the hotel bonvecchiati not the palace. It was a very nice experience. The staff were helpfull. I enjoyed it very much. Thank You!

I could not agree more with July 6 review. Rooms were clean and spacious and location was excellent only 2 minutes from St marks square. Wifi and breakfast were a problem but benefits far outweighed the small negatives. We took private taxi from hotel to airport and highly recommend departing that way.

My husband, two teenagers and I just returned from Italy. We stayed at the Palace Bonvecchiati for one night. Our rooms were modern, roomy and clean and right on the canal. It reminded me a little of Disneyland as the gondolas were in a constant line right under our windows. It was entertaining to look down on all the people. The location was great. My suggestion though is to splurge for the water taxi to pick you up right at the back door and avoid the rolling of suitcases through the streets of tourists. We did not do so on the way there but did on the way back to the train station and we were very glad. Complaints= breakfast was not good. Eat elsewhere. The wireless service you have to pay for and it did not even work. What they don't tell you is that they don't refund your money even if that is the case. Just skip the technology and enjoy the city.

Room Tip: Ask for room on the canal for ambience sake but know that the canal is used for garbage service, del...

The arrival was great. The location was ideal. Our room was not ready, which I expected as we had arrived following a cruise. We had a guide and he stayed for the check in, I wanted to make sure we were not sent to the "sister hotel". The room was modern and roomy. The bed was fine. Bath was clean and roomy. The breakfast was not outstanding. I don't eat wheat, my choices were really limited. The bacon looked really greasy. No omelette station. The front desk was helpful. Movie was 7 euro, which frankly we were pretty tired after the cruise so we watched a movie to rest up a bit one afternoon.

A quick weekend trip to Venice & we stayed @ the Palace Bonvecchiati. Easy to find from either the Rialto Bridge or Piazza San Marco- its about a 10 min walk from the bridge & about a 5 min walk to the Piazza San Marco (Calle de Fabbri seems to be the main route between the 2). We took the public transport from the airport to the Rialto Bridge stop & walked from there- a little confusing @ first but we found it. We should have taken a water taxi as it would have brought us right to the hotel. We did take a water taxi back to the airport & it was MUCH better & faster. Hotel was an oasis from the heat- so the A/C works well. Lobby is beautiful- Italian terrazzo flooring just beautiful. We were checked in quickly & shown to our room. We got a room that faced the one of the little canals so it was a treat. Room was well appointed, great bath facilities, ample soft towels & amenities were provided. Good lighting in the room as well. King sized bed with nice linens, bed was comfy as well- no sleep complaints at all. Our room was a Jr. suite so we had room to spare & a little sitting area that had a sofa & coffee table. Great windows & shutters that blocked out the afternoon sun/heat but opened it let in the sounds of the canal below. All day there were gondolas passing right below our windows. In the late afternoon, early evening there were more that had singing on them- so it was like having a radio on in the room- just fabulous. Although there was a mosquito problem from the canal- so we did limit the opening of the windows. Once the gondolas & taxis started churning up the canal they seemed to go away- but be careful. The room's A/C worked great & it was quiet enough to sleep with on. Breakfast was included with our room & it was in the hotel part of the property. A good selection of meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs & breads- no complaints- it was average. The only negative I have about the property is the use of WIFI- I STILL to this day, do not understand why a property that is 4 star & and charges 300+ a night does not provide free WIFI to their guests. Our room did have a fax machine in it though- but who uses those anymore anyway?? The WIFI they do have is not offered by the hotel but a 3rd party that you have to register with & pay for separately from your room. I realize hotels have lost revenue from people not utilizing their phone systems since the advent of cell services- but to look to WIFI as a profit center on top of high room rates is just irritating to me. Overall the hotel was great. Happy & helpful staff were there when you needed them as well.

This hotel is perfectly located between San Marco and Rialto. So much so that you can get there in a straight line if you take the Alllalaguna Vaparetto (a type of transportation) from the airport to the Rialto stop and decide you want to walk with your baggage. That convenience is not to be underestimated in a city with meandering alleys that often dead-end into a canal, and a taxi ride for the 100 yards could set you back 50 euros!!
They offer a decent breakfast buffet that was included with the room at the time of our visit. and for the most part, the staff are friendly and helpful.
The only negative is that in a city where most architecture is old and charming, the modernization of the hotel has compromised it's charm. But if that's the price to pay for the spotless cleanliness and the well working air-conditioning (another rarity in some Italian hotels) I guess I won't complain.

Room Tip: both of our rooms did not have any views even though at the time of booking they were advertised as...

I have to admit, I was initially a little concerned about our choice. When my husband and I arrived at the train station we decided to take a private water taxi because we did not know exactly where the hotel was located and didn’t want to have to maneuver Venice with our luggage. If you chose this option, be sure to negotiate the price with the driver (or the person arranging the travel) before boarding. Once we did, our luggage was quickly loaded and we were off to the hotel. The driver did not speak with us during the 15-20 minute ride to the hotel and, the only times we heard him speak were when he received the price from the person arranging the taxi and when we encountered canal traffic as we approached our hotel. He promptly unloaded us at the Hotel Bonvecchiati and was on his way.

Now, here is where you should take note. We were unloaded at the Hotel Bonvecchiati which is the sister hotel to the Palace Bonvecchiati. There was NO ONE there to greet us once we left the taxi and entered the hotel. We spent a few moments trying to figure out which way we needed to go for check-in and during that time NO ONE approached us. We finally approached the small check-in counter for the Hotel Bonvecchiati and there were a few staff members and what appeared to be a few guests. None of the staff members acknowledged our presence during the time we waited for them to work with the other guests. When we were next to be addressed, the person barely made eye contact and never commented on our wait or welcomed us to the hotel. When I gave him our name and showed him our confirmation, he shrugged us off and gave us some aloof directions to find the sister hotel…this was not a great way to start our time in Venice.

As we tried to figure out where the entrance to the sister hotel was, a person on the street asked us where we were going and quickly pointed us in the right direction…from there on, things were much better! When we entered the Palace Bonvecchiati, all of the staff members greeted us. Our bags were taken by a porter to our room and the person at the front desk who checked us in then proceeded to give us a brief tour of the hotel and escort us to our room. Our room was as pictured on the website and was considered spacious by European standards. We had a nice bedroom area, a good-sized-sitting area, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom with a commode, bidet, tub and separate shower…a very comfortable place to stay during our Venice visit.

Whenever we needed to speak with the staff members at the front desk of the Palace Bonvecchiati, they were very professional and courteous. The person who checked us in, remembered us and our room number whenever we interacted with her, and the other staff members that we spoke with were equally as pleasant and helpful. The front desk personnel assisted us with locating restaurants, confirming our existing reservations, and making decisions about a return taxi to the train station (due to flooding situations, they will let you know if a private taxi can pick you up at the hotel or if you need to go to the Rialto Bridge to meet the taxi. If you have to go the Rialto Bridge, you might as well get on the public transportation system since it is so much less expensive – and yes, you can get there without going up and down several little staircases – this is what we did and made it to the train station very comfortably).

We did use the gym, which was aptly equipped with cardio and strength equipment, but we did not use the spa area. One day we had the breakfast buffet (which had all of the basic breakfast items). It should be noted that the hotel restaurant is located in the “sister” hotel and the people who worked in the restaurant were pleasant and much nicer than the front desk staff of the Hotel Bonvecchiati.

Overall, I agree that one of the Palace Bonvecchiati’s biggest selling points is the location. We were able to walk to almost every attraction and restaurant that was on our itinerary. There are also restaurants and gelato shops nearby for drop-in snacks or meals. The hotel staff is courteous and professional and, the rooms are contemporary and well-appointed (although, the lack of free wi-fi is a little off-putting). This is great place to unwind after a day of exploring Venice.
