Our gondolier recommended this restaurant to our family of 4. We went out of our way to find the fabulous terrace and looked forward to a great Italian meal. Although the terrace was almost empty, our waiter discouraged us from taking a shaded canal side table. He suggested we sit in one row from the water. We did so and then watched as he seated other diners on the canal. No big deal but we were soon to find that it matched the service we received.
We each ordered an entree and asked for water as well as sodas and wine. The water was lukewarm and only enough for two glasses instead of four. We were dying of thirst in the 90 degree heat and asked for water twice more. Service was extremely slow. I wished I had a bottle of water in my bag.
The entrees arrived and were really good. We had one pizza, on salmon dish, one pasta and one chicken dish. The food was excellent.
Then our table service ended. We were not asked if we would like any more food, dessert, aperitifs, nothing. We sat there for half an hour and finally, our two girls walked next door and bought two gelatos. They brought them back to our table and you should have seen the dirty looks from the waiters! Still, no one asked if we wanted coffee or our check. It was really strange. There were four waiters mostly just standing there. The original waiter had long since disappeared. Other diners were served and it was not busy. Finally, we just got up and walked over and asked for the bill so we could pay.
We did not have any issues with the staff or food and saw no reason for the horrible service. After returning to our ship, we found that other travelers experienced horrible service at other restaurants. The wait staff treat you like dirt and probably wonder why they don't receive good tips. They certainly don't deserve it.
